Chapter 59 - The First Day

Kairen stopped walking and looked up at a building with his eyes narrowed.

"Is that the place?"

He walked a few steps closer and looked again.

"Yes. It's the building. I finally found it!"

He sighed in relief and ran to the building as fast as he could. He was searching for SMF's building for almost an hour now.

He was late. He was late for the first day of his work. It wasn't because he overslept or something, he was actually so anxious that he couldn't sleep the whole night and was awake till morning.

He was late because he got lost. He was in a new city, it wasn't easy to find his way through the huge city and he got lost while trying to find his way to SMF's base. He was wandering around the city for an hour without knowing where he was.

Kairen looked at his watch while running. It was 8: 30. He was half an hour late.

'Man, I'll get expelled on the first day of my work.'

He hurriedly took out a card from his pocket when he arrived at the building. It was a card indicating his position at SMF as a temporary agent. Kairen passed the yard and arrived in front of the entrance door. He pressed the card on the device installed at the entrance of the building.

Beep.

The device beeped and a green sign appeared on its screen.

Kairen walked into the building. Once he stepped in, he could see a large and bright hall. He was familiar with this place since he was here for his last mission. Kairen headed to the elevator that was on the right side of the hall. According to the information written on the card, he had to go to floor 15. He walked into the elevator and pressed the button with a "15" engraved on it.

In this building that is considered to be one of SMF's main bases, there were separate floors for each one of the Special Forces units. There was also one floor used by the assistants and the staff that took care of the whole division's works. Each unit also had an office on the main floor. The main headquarters of SMF was a smaller building near this place that Kairen didn't really have much information about.

Ding

The elevator arrived at its destination in a few seconds and Kairen stepped out of it as soon as the doors opened.

"He is finally here!"

"Why are you so late?"

Kairen saw his friends approach him the moment he stepped out of the elevator. They seemed angry as they were glaring at him while frowning. Kairen scratched his head and muttered quietly.

"I got lost..."

"Haa!"

Reyan sighed and Serria shook her head at his answer.

Kairen could feel people's gaze on him. He slowly walked and hid behind his friends' backs to avoid their gaze. The people in the hall all turned away and continued to do their jobs after seeing him take refuge.

"We have to talk to the team leader now that all three of us are here."

Reyan started walking forward as he said that. Kairen and Serria also followed him.

Kairen looked around the hall while walking. He could see some rooms on the right and left sides of the hall. He didn't know what they were used for as he was too far away to see the insides. There were also desks placed in the hall and some people were sitting behind them. Surprisingly, the number of people in the hall wasn't much.

'One... two... three... four?'

Knock Knock

Reyan knocked on the wooden door of the team leader two times and stepped back.

"Come in."

He grabbed the handle and opened the door slowly after hearing the man's voice.

"Good morning, sir."

"Good morning."

"Good morning."

The man nodded his head at their greetings and pointed at the sofa in front of himself as if to tell them to sit down. He opened his mouth when the three of them sat down.

"What a good morning to be late for your work."

"...."

Kairen could feel Reyan, Serria, and team leader Dains all looking at him. He lowered his head in shame and muttered under his lips.

"Sorry..."

Team leader Dains continued to talk as if he didn't hear Kairen's words.

"You'll have to work here just like a real member of our unit for the next three months. There are instructions that you need to understand before doing anything else. You can ask our deputy team leader for those."

The team leader said that and picked up his pen that was placed on a bunch of papers on his desk.

"You can leave if you don't have any questions."

Reyan raised his hand at that moment.

"I have a question."

"Ask your questions from the deputy team leader as well. You can leave."

"...."

He didn't care about the three people's bewildered faces and started writing down things on the papers.

'Really? Did you call us here to tell us to ask anything from the deputy team leader? You just wanted to point out me being late, didn't you?'

Kairen looked at his friends who had similar expressions and got up from the sofa. They walked to the door before Reyan stopped and asked something again.

"Um... Can you tell us where we can find the deputy team leader?"

Team leader Dains answered without even raising his head.

"I don't know."

"...Thank you."

Reyan opened the door and the three people exited the room.

"What the hell. Why was he like that?"

Serria looked at the closed door and nagged quietly.

"He must have been busy..."

Reyan muttered that under his lips also looking at the door.

"You guys must have come to me from the beginning. He doesn't really like explaining things to others."

They all turned their heads towards the voice of the woman that came from the side. They could see a woman standing beside the door with her arms folded. She had long black hair and purple eyes. She was tall and had wide shoulders and seemed to be in her mid-thirties.

"Ah, I forgot to introduce myself.. Hello our cute newbies, I'm the poor deputy team leader that the sulky team leader was talking about."
