Leveling Endlessly with the Strongest System!

414 Immortality is but a fluke (2/4)

The zombie looked up, its eyes widening to the size of saucers as it saw the buildings tumbling towards it. Their massive forms were hurtling towards it with unstoppable force!

“Holy fuck!” The zombie cried out, its voice filled with a desperate, frenzied panic.

He scrambled to get out of the way, his limbs flailing as he tried to outrun the inexorable advance of the falling buildings.

But it was too late.

Boom!

The towering structures crashed down on him with a force that shook the very earth, burying him beneath a mountain of rubble and debris.

His scream was lost in the deafening roar of destruction.

“Phew~it’s finally dealt with!” Delilah exclaimed as she came out of her hiding place.

“Stay alert! That wasn’t enough to reap its life.” Roy warned, waving his hand. Delilah got his signal and crouched once again, hiding behind the roof railing.

As Roy said, the zombie wasn’t dead yet. With a loud explosion, the zombie burst out of the rubble. It was covered in dirt all over and was missing an arm and a leg. It quickly regenerated them but still looked as miserable as a beggar.

Roy looked at the zombie tauntingly, “You are like a cockroach that refuses to die!”

In response, the zombie charged towards Roy with a fierce shout: “Now you have done it. You have pissed me off!”

“How naive must you be to think that you can use your emotions as a driving force to make a change?” Roy laughed at its stupidity as he brandished his sword. “Let me crush that silly thought of yours!”

Black lightning thundered out of the swords and struck the zombie like a bolt out of the blue.

The zombie shot back into the mountain of debris, its flesh sizzling and smoking from the lightning’s deadly touch.

But it was like a cockroach that just doesn’t die no matter how hard you stomp on it. It crawled out of the hole and spewed a bubbling hot ball of poison toward Roy.

Undaunted, Roy swung his sword. Two streaks of black light erupted out of their tips and went forward to meet the enemy’s attack.

The poison ball was sliced into two. It splashed outwards and fell on the ground, eroding it. A huge pit was created, showcasing how toxic its poison was.

Meanwhile, after slicing the enemy’s attack into two, the two physical manifestations of the roar of the sword flew towards the zombie.

It jumped to the side, dodging both of them. They flew past it. It thought that it was saved, but just then, it saw a smile emerging on Roy’s face.

Seeing that smile, the zombie felt that something was terribly wrong.

The zombie spun around and saw the streaks of black light curving towards it.

The zombie couldn’t do anything as the black streaks sliced through the its neck, severing its head from its body.

Roy’s head throbbed as he didn’t hear any notification. He was annoyed because even after all that beating, the grey-skinned zombie wasn’t dead.

Could it be really immortal?

“Now that I think about it, it has been a long time since a monster piqued my interest. It would be disappointing if I leave this mystery unsolved.” Roy thought to himself, wondering what was beyond the veil of mystery.

“It’s not like I have no way of finding the secret to its immortality,” he said, a faint smile playing on his lips.

Meanwhile, the target of his interest flailed around in search of its head.

“Where is it?” The zombie wondered anxiously.

After a moment, it incidentally kicked something round and wet. The round object rolled forward. The zombie was familiar with the shape of its head. How could it not notice that what it had kicked was preciously what it was looking for?

It immediately lurched forward and reached down to retrieve its detached head from the grimy pavement.

Squelch!

With a sickening voice, it lifted the mangled remnants of its neck and carefully positioned the rotting skull back onto its rightful place, where it clicked into an unsettling alignment. Despite the grotesque scene, the zombie seemed to be completely unfazed, as if reattaching its own head was just another mundane task in its undead existence.

“Ha-ha! Check out the walking dead guy over here, nonchalantly reattaching his own head like it’s just another day in the undead office. Talk about having a “no biggie” attitude! Fuck! I am going crazy!” Roy was so shocked he could barely keep himself from pulling at his hair.

The Armored Fucking Knight didn’t meet such a monster when he entered the Ashen Land the first two times, so why did he have to be unlucky enough to come across such a freak of nature? He didn’t sign up for this when he entered the Ashen Land

Even Delilah felt that this zombie was just unfair.

The zombie flexed its muscles and cracked its neck before saying, “I am ready for round two.”

Roy rolled his eyes, “No one wants to play with you, sicko.”

His eyes narrowed as he inspected the zombie.

『The Perception skill has been activated.』

The efficacy of his Perception skill relied on the excellence of his perception stat, which consisted of a total of 20 points. This huge amount provided a substantial enhancement to his Perception skill, allowing him to scrutinize individuals two levels higher than himself. Aura masters and those weaker than them were like an open book to him. He held no faith that the grey-skinned zombie would prove any different.

Nonetheless, his anticipations were dashed when something contrary to his expectations occurred!

『The skill has failed to work on the target』

『The target is protected by a obscure energy. It can not be inspected!』

Roy’s confidence shattered as soon as that notification rang in his ears.

Startled and wary, Roy took a step back as he felt surprised and caution rise within him.
