Into the Zombie World

Chapter 65 - Emergency Mission

Nile is holding on to the coconut branch tightly. His legs were trembling like noodles as he read the System messages that interrupted his dream earlier.

[ALERT! ALERT! ALERT!]

[Emergency Mission: Escape the current predicament.

Description: The zombie pets are getting stronger rather quickly. The mutated animals are further pushed back on their battle of attrition. The mutated animals had just begun evolving a few days ago and could not withstand the constant assault of the zombie pets. The mutated animals in the Village of Ulhi were starting to migrate to another area to preserve their kind. Zombie pets are on their tail chasing for their life.

A horde of mutated animals and zombie pets are coming in your way.

Objective: Survive. Run for your life. Move to the next Village.

Reward: Level One° Dual Wield Talent. Level One° Kriegsmesser of Agony.]

Nile glanced at the far distance. In the direction past the Village Hall of Village Ulhi, there was a cloud of smoke rising to the clouds. The enormous tree's at that direction were trembling as if there was an earthquake going on.

Every now and then, Nile could spot some black dots of various moving objects in that direction. They were the mutated animals. Some of them are heading towards Nile's location, while there are also mutated animals who are fleeing in different directions with mass hysteria.

It was chaos.

Chasing at their back are zombie pets of various sizes. Although the zombie pet side mostly consists of 'pets' at the start of the apocalypse, right now, their ranks already included wild animals that they had infected successfully.

Nile is shaking above the coconut tree. It was caused by a mixture of fear and excitement.

This event was both a calamity and opportunity for Nile.

But Nile did not become arrogant and dumb. Nile knew that even with the case that he has the help of a Middle Stage Level One° Maximo, both of them will still not be able to last for a minute if they are besieged by that amount of zombie pets.

Not to mention the mutated animals that might get on their way during the fight.

Nile also did not know what is the alignment of the mutated animal's side.

Are they friendly with humans? Do they only attack zombies?

Maximo is a rare case. The carabaos are mostly docile animals, especially the reared ones. Maximo is also friendly with Nile. He did not know if this was the case for the other animals as well. It was better to be safe than sorry.

Nile stared at the setting sun. He realized that his 'nap' is longer than he had initially thought.

When Nile saw that Maximo was still sleeping soundly at the ground, he could not help but be worried. The horde of mutated animals and zombie pets are already getting near their location.

If it comes down to it, he will have to abandon Maximo here.

Although Nile only meets Maximo earlier, he could not help but feel sad and pitiful in the thought of leaving Maximo behind.

Even so, he will prioritise his life first. Call him a traitor or anything, but he will not change his decision.

Survive first and take revenge later when you are already strong enough.

Based on the speed of the mutated animals and zombie pets horde, Nile estimated that the mutated animals will reach his current location after half an hour and the zombie pets will arrive a few minutes after that.

Nile took a glance at the Emergency Mission that the system issued. To be honest, Nile is mostly surprised when he reads the objective of the mission.

This is the first mission the System ever issued and the rewards are pretty generous too. A Level One° weapon and a Level One° talent?

Not to mention that the mission's objective is in line with his plans.

The System is basically saying; "Let us escape here. I will give you toys if you can lead us to safety successfully. Do not hesitate, let's leave."

Maybe the reason why the System issued this mission in the first place is because it was afraid that Nile will act dumb and heroic by staying at Maximo's side to die alongside the animal.

Unfortunately for the System, Nile doesn't have that kind of courage. He is not ready to die yet. Even if the System did not issue this emergency mission, Nile will still do his best to escape. He will not reject this generous reward the System is offering.

The System is even more afraid than Nile himself if he died. Nile took note of this.

Nile thought the System's reward was already guaranteed to be his.

But Nile did not escape immediately to complete the mission. This is an opportunity for Nile to farm Apocalypse Virus from a distance. Safe and profitable.

In order for Nile to do that, he will need a weapon with an extensive range first. A super extensive range one.

Nile browse through the System Weapon Store and move towards the long-range weapon category.

His first choice of long-range weapon would be a gun, of course. It must be noted that the System is being generous and will even provide a free silencer if he ever bought one. This way he will not need to worry about attracting the zombies with the sound produced by the gun.

Unfortunately, Nile almost cried about how poor he was.

A Level One° pistol alone from the System already cost 50 Apocalypse Points, how much more with the bigger and more powerful guns? His hope of obtaining his own sniper rifle with a silencer has been silenced by the price alone.

Melee and long-range weapons are separated in a category in the System Store. Their respective top ten lists are also different.

Nile moved on and browsed through the other long-range weapons in the store. Nile browsed through the cheaper ones and ultimately decided to buy a long-ranged slingshot. It was affordable and had its own merits. And unlike guns, it will not produce a clamorous sound that might attract trouble.

This long-range slingshot he chooses is also the most expensive of all the slingshot available in the System.

[Level One° Sniping Slingshot - An excellent weapon for long-range killing. Power and speed are comparable to sniper rifles(Depend on the user's strength). Losing courage in a melee fight? Switch to a distance weapon then. A peak level Slingshot that is great for sniping.

/60 Apocalypse Points.

]

He bought the Sniping Slingshot for 60 Apocalypse Points.

Nile then browses through the bullets tab and finds the specific bullet he is searching for.

This is also another reason why getting a gun would be a luxury.

From the price of the gun itself, it was already a luxury for Nile to have it. Not to mention the cost of buying bullets every time.

[Level One° Exploding Bullet- A bullet that will explode upon contact of the target. An explosion of the eight-meter radius is guaranteed.

/10 Apocalypse Point per box.

]

Different kinds of bullets have different prices.

Fortunately, the slingshot could be loaded with a different kind of bullets and is not restricted to one type of bullet only.

Nile bought one box of Exploding bullets, which had six rounds of exploding bullets inside it.

With that shopping spree, Nile's Apocalypse Points count is now reduced to a meagre 5.5.

But Nile did not take it to heart, he knew that it was worth it.

He retrieved both the Sniping Slingshot and the box of Exploding Bullet inside his storage space.

The slingshot has a frame with the shape of a 'Y'. It was decorated with red spiral lines all over it. The handle is one foot tall while above it is the thick 'U' shape frame that is over half a foot tall. The bottom of the handle has a ball-like object embedded to it to provide a better grip for the user.

The two rubbers connecting to the frame are black and it was 1.5 inches wide. The leather projectile pocket has the colour of ash, it is wide enough to fit Nile's fist.

Nile opened the box of Exploding Bullet and inside it are the six ball-like exploding bullets the size of a coin. They are neatly arranged in 2x3 inside the rectangular box. The Exploding Bullets has a black and flowing grey colour that looks like a cloud of rising smoke.

As it came with the function of attach and detach, Nile attached the box on his right arm, the arm that he used to hold the slingshot to have a better transition when firing continuously. Nile took one bullet using his left hand and loaded it into the slingshot's leather projectile pocket.

Sniping was more favourable when the person sniping was in a tall building. For Nile's case, he is currently atop the tall coconut tree. A rather perfect spot for sniping.

With the Exploding Bullet in tow, Nile pulled the leather projectile pocket along with the rubber of the sniping slingshot back with all his might. His muscles bulged as he pulled the rubber backwards. Nile took an aim in the distance, the place where there is a high concentration of zombie pets was his target.

Nile aimed carefully. Every round of exploding bullets is expensive. Bullets should not be wasted.

Just like the melee weapons, every time a long-range weapon makes a kill, the System will also automatically collect the dead Apocalypse Virus inside them no matter the distance.

Nile's blood was boiling as he pulled hard the rubber of the slingshot backwards. The rubber is stretched back with Nile's trembling hand.

With the help of the Weapons Master Talent, Nile being proficient in using the Sniping Slingshot is not a surprise.

After various estimation and calculation, Nile noted where to aim to earn Apocalypse Virus as much as possible with only one shot.

Nile breathed in and out calmly. After adjusting his breath, he felt confident and let go of the projectile pocket along with the exploding bullet inside it. The exploding bullet spun and flew towards the location that Nile had marked. With extremely fast speed, the bullet almost arrived instantly at its destination.

While the exploding bullet is still spinning in mid-air, Nile's outside appearance is as calm as a mountain, but deep inside, his inner self is already screaming with,

'EEX...PLOSIOOONNNN!'
