In the next second, the cell phone in Sheng Man’s bag rang and her agent Sister Huo helped her pick up the call. She glanced at the phone suspiciously.
“Who is this? Is it your relative?”
Sheng Man heard Sister Huo’s voice and she slowly opened her eyes. She took the phone that Sister Huo handed over, but when her sight fell on the screen, her fingers trembled and she started to panic.
“I’m going to answer the call, so you can go out for now.”
Sheng Man repeatedly urged and waited for Sister Huo to get outside of the dressing room before refocusing her gaze on the screen.
There was only one simple word displayed on the phone screen—Sheng.
Sheng Man didn’t want to give Sheng Lian a full name at all, for fear that others would know the relationship between her and Sheng Lian.
The dressing room was already empty, but Sheng Man was still worried that someone would overhear her conversation, so she went and stuck herself to the corner and pressed the answer button.
Sheng Man lowered her voice but her tone was layered with obvious anger.
“What are you calling me for? Weren’t you the one who said not to contact me during working hours?!”
Sheng Lian only uttered a few words that dissipated her anger instantly, “I want to tell you something about Sheng Luo, so come home tonight.”
After speaking, Sheng Lian hung up the phone.
Sheng Luo, it’s Sheng Luo again; this is the second time I have heard Sheng Luo’s name these days.
Why is she always lingering around?
Sheng Man’s hands trembled slightly and she almost lost grip of her phone. When Sister Huo came in again, she saw Sheng Man’s pale expression.
Sister Huo only thought that Sheng Man was ill but she didn’t expect that Sheng Man would lose even her familiar arrogance. At this point, she didn’t know what was going on in her mind anymore.
Once the event was over, Sheng Man immediately dressed up and drove to Sheng Lian’s home.
When Sheng Man arrived, the sky was already a dark shade of night. Regardless, she still covered her face tightly. When she opened the door, Sheng Lian was already waiting for her in the living room.
Sheng Lian waited for Sheng Man to sit down. He didn’t waste his breath spouting nonsense and directly talked to her about business.
“Sheng Luo’s disappearance was caused by me— I abducted her and sold her to another place. I didn’t let you know about it because you were still young.”
Sheng Man pretended to be calm, but she was silently mumbling in her heart.
She already knew.
After she had gotten a little older, she guessed the truth of the facts and knew about it to a certain extent. That was the reason as to why she still played the part of ‘Sheng family’s daughter’ obediently on the premise of knowing the truth.
Sheng Man squeezed the armrests of the sofa uncontrollably, and her delicately trimmed nails were embedded on the sofa.
“And? What do you want to say?”
Sheng Lian didn’t know about Sheng Man’s train of thought,”I asked Liu Cang, a trafficker at the time, to investigate Sheng Luo’s current situation; he reported that she had died in a landslide.”
“She was gone many years ago.”
Sheng Man murmured, “She’s dead?”
Sheng Man found it unbelievable that the person who she has been worrying about her whole life died so easily, making her heart feel a little uneasy at the simplicity of the matter.
Sheng Lian saw Sheng Man’s strange and bewildered reaction, but he thought that Sheng Man was shocked and needed time to digest the truth.
“So, keep getting on Nie Jiqing’s good side and restrain your temper. Aren’t you her favourite?”
Sheng Lian’s words continued, but they seemed to be intermittent and indistinguishable.
