Chapter 728: Glaring Weakness

Chapter 728: Glaring Weakness

The best way to train one’s mind was to subject themselves to things they are apprehensive about. The eagles were dangerous but didn’t exert the maximum amount of mental pressure on Pilkan. After all, he belonged to the Lan Clan, a Clan that worked with the eagles.

So, they offered the least amount of mental pressure on him. But even that, when pushed to the extreme like the situation on the deck of the ship was strenuous enough to exhaust him mentally.

But, that wasn’t enough for Compass Carburettor whose goal was to attain the peak of this world within three years. To make that a reality, he had to go about things in a different form.

So for that, Compass Carburettor also captured exotic but dangerous fish varieties, storing them within the almost empty ship. One of them were the electric eels he had chanced upon.

Pilkan was averse to creepy crawlies, having a natural fear of them. Therefore, it took a greater mental toll on him just to see them, not to mention interact with them.

Thump! Thump!

His heart thumped loud enough for him to feel it reverberating through his chest, the sounds resounding clearly in his ears, drowning out the rest. His index finger neared the tank; the thumping of his heart spiked in response as if he was sprinting at his utmost limit.

Slowly, his finger touched the water in the tank, feeling a minor shock as he retracted his hand in reflex. Though, that itself seemed to have taken a toll on him as Compass Carburettor fainted.

In his original body, he wouldn’t have fainted, for he had an affinity to most serpentine creatures. But Pilkan was different. And in Pilkan’s body, this was too much to endure.

“My Lord!” The sailors rushed to his rescue, hurriedly tending to his injuries before setting him on the bed nearby.

“They would leave nasty scars.” One of the sailors said after bandaging Compass Carburettor’s arms.

“At least, it doesn’t seem like he’ll suffer any disease of the sort from that.” Another said.

Medical technology in their world was limited, similar to primitive Earth. Whether it was Invokers or Ascenders, none could regenerate from fleshly wounds.

Though would have to recuperate for an extended time to heal naturally. And even then, amputated parts would never grow back. Of course, Ascenders had the option of shifting into the bodies of someone young and healthy.

That was how Ascenders dealt with any severe injuries. Though for Invokers, if they were injured, that was it for them.

Special abilities like the mist Compass Carburettor used were rare, probably only in the possession of a few direct descendants of Conjurers. As Compass Carburettor had yet to encounter one, he wasn’t sure of the types of abilities there existed.

His eyes shot open upon sensing the dense Mental Energy streams gushing into him, smiling as everything was absorbed by his true body within the Invoked Spirit.

When the Invoked Spirit was out of the Dreamland, moving about for its task, the Mental Energy streams actually gushed into it. Pilkan was just a house for the Invoked Spirit.

That was why it wasn’t Pilkan controlling the Invoked Spirit but reverse. This was how even when he was seated on the deck of the ship, the Invoked Spirit was able to hunt in the seas.

Compass Carburettor stared at the injuries on his body, smiling upon noticing that none of them was dangerous. To anyone else, they would have sustained at least a couple of critical injuries.

But for someone blessed by the fate of the world, Pilkan only suffered the most normal of injuries, something a week of rest would rectify. That was why he was the protagonist of this world.

‘It seems they’ve succeeded.’ He smiled upon sensing the Mental Energy streams incident on him spike in volume by a dozen times. It meant that the Forbidden Tales were being received with a lot of commotion in the plateau region.

Moreover, he could also feel the Main Character System growing at a steady pace, spreading around the world. “It won’t take long before it spreads to all corners of this world.”

Smiling at the thought, Compass Carburettor closed his eyes, focusing on his Dreamland as he began to continue with the manufacturing process of the Ascender Scroll. Having an Ascender Scroll was a must for a breakthrough.

After all, owning one reduced the difficulties in becoming an Ascender. It was a strategic resource. Of course, if the Lan Clan Head wasn’t currently engaged in protecting the Forbidden Tale in his possession, he would have already scoured through the plains himself to reclaim the stolen Ascender Scroll.

Currently, the Lan Clan was being pressured by multiple Clans, for they were in possession of the Forbidden Tale. This created enough leeway for Compass Carburettor to enact his plans and use the family of four for his schemes.

“Once Duketace and Kowla return, I’ll catch Sturrala. She should have gained quite a lot of benefits by then.” He muttered before noticing that his Mental Strength had experienced another growth spurt, now on par with an average Common Invoker.

In his estimation, it would take him a month to become a Superior Invoker and another two months to reach the peak as an Invoker. To accelerate that journey, the Ascender Scroll was a necessity.

And in order to have enough Mental Strength, Compass Carburettor trained by subjecting himself to torture. He continued to work in such a mental state. After all, over time, he adapted.

Moreover, after adapting to it, once he resumed the task without any mental pressure, his work efficiency was at least thrice as efficient as compared to before—in his optimal state.

Moreover, thanks to his Natural Recovery Scroll, he was able to train harder with minimal rest.

But of course, in this process, he understood the limitation of this power system, “It cannot affect the body. It can only affect the mind, which influences the brain. That’s all, nothing else.”

This meant that even though it had its fair share of advantages, its disadvantages were equally apparent. After all, a trained archer would be able to take out a Superior invoker through an ambush. That was the most glaring weakness of this power system, which seemed to even extend over to Ascenders.

And if guns were introduced into the mix, it would collapse the power system.
