I Hate Systems

Chapter 206: Interesting! But Weak!

Chapter 206: Interesting! But Weak!

Now that he had cleared up his thoughts, Compass Carburettor focused on the ability he had obtained. It seemed the power systems of this world also came with a convenient user manual, equipped with all the necessary instructions.

After a moment of thought, he frowned, 'This shouldn't have been the case initially. The cause for this should have been the Grade 4 System that modified this world. Though, why had it done such a pointless thing? Any System should already have enough information related to the mechanics of the world they are about to enter.'

It was a simple conjecture. There were countless worlds out there, with new ones constantly being discovered. There were also alternate universes like the one discovered by the Permanence System

Once such a world was discovered, a batch of Systems would descend into the world first to shape it. They would establish a connection to the Astral Network there, create things that would shape up the mentality of the people to become more accepting of Systems and also figure out all the secrets of the world.

All this information would later be up for sale for any System that wished to descend into this world. That's how these Systems made a profit for all their work.

So, generally speaking, there was no need for such information to be attached to the power. For a System Host, his/her System could casually feed the related information to them. Also, they could even withhold some sensitive information that would later put the Host in dangerous situations.

All of that would increase the Mental Energy a System obtained. But now, the actions taken by the Grade 4 System was reducing the advantage of the Systems that enter this world.

After some more thought, Compass Carburettor was unable to figure out the truth, sighing as he focused on the matter at hand, and that was his ability.

As he thought about it, his Darlac was consumed as a pair of shoes condensed on his feet. Smirking once, he sensed his Darlac being expended once again as his figure flashed, reappearing at a distance of ten metres away from his original spot.

He hadn't teleported but had moved at a frightening speed. Moreover, the ability was coupled with a mysterious power that automatically negated the inertia that he built up during the high-speed movement.

Otherwise, his organs would have been severely injured as a result of the movement. When he obtained the ability, he also gained all the necessary instincts in regards to using it.

This was also the reason Rhizen was able to use his tail so naturally.

The power of this world followed a simple mechanic.

When a mutated beast was killed, there would sometimes be an orb within its body. Consuming this orb would allow you to gain the ability of the said beast. But, there was a limitation.

It was that you could only gain one per stage. And here, the stage was a vague concept. Anyone with an ability would be at Stage 1.

And, when they reach the peak of it, they would naturally know that they were able to reach Stage 2. But, there didn't come any increase to their physique or anything with the increase in the stages.

Until the end, they would remain as a regular human, but the only thing that would change was how many mutated beasts they could contain within them.

Thinking as such, Compass Carburettor flicked his hand, watching the one-horned mongoose appear beside him. Though, such an action alone consumed about 100 of his Darlac.

He then motioned for it to devour the one-horned bird, watching it gobble up the other party. At the end of it, the figure of the mongoose became slightly stronger.

Sighing, he watched the mongoose disappear.

For every stage, a human was able to obtain the ability of a mutated beast. So, suppose he was at Stage 3, he would be able to have three mutated beasts.

And, if a mutated beast that he had captured consumed the body of another mutated beast on the same level as it, then its body would be slightly improved. As long as it continued with the same, then it would eventually reach a higher level.

And, the level for the mutated beasts was determined by the number of horns on them. And, here was where this power system turned interesting.

Suppose he was at Stage 3 and had captured three mutated beasts. As long as he provided them with sufficient mutated beast corpses, all of them would eventually develop three horns. That would be their limit until he reaches Stage 4 or higher.

As for the power of the mongoose, once he activated it, a pair of boots would form on his legs that would allow him to travel at tremendous speeds. This was what the mongoose had used in the end to instantly bite off a large chunk of his neck.

With the boots, he'll be able to do the same. And, as the number of horns on his mongoose increases, so will the distance that he could flash towards by wearing the boots.

But, here came a massive limitation that made him unwilling to use Permanence on himself at the end of his journey in this world.

To condense his boots, he would have to consume a pearl. The energy from the pearl would condense his boots that would allow him to flash once before the boots vanish. If he doesn't use the flash ability, he would be able to run faster and jump higher than usual, but for a certain duration until the energy from the pearl is expended.

This was the inherent disadvantage of this power system. All its users would have to depend on the pearls for power. Without it, no matter how high the Stage they reached, they would be helpless.

But, since the pearls were more or less similar to Darlac, as they were condensation of the body's energy, he could somehow supplement its activation using it. But, the efficiency was very low.

He was better off using an energy blade that was more versatile and lethal.

"But, normally speaking, as time passes, these pearls would form the most basic currency of this world that the apocalypse society relies upon.." He nodded, shaking his head, 'But in the end, it's too weak to waste my Permanence upon.'
