Dimensional Store System In Apocalypse

Chapter 170 - Separated (2)

'Who would have guessed that searching for an exit was this hard in here?' Zhang Qin Feng places his hand around his nape while he's complaining. It didn't come across his mind that searching for an emergency exit was this bothersome.

He had spent close to an hour searching for the door but to no avail.

And with the Luna II sonar ability is hardly usable on this mountain of rubbles, he couldn't even relax for a second. The slightest sound or movement would immediately startle him and made him went into a panic.

Honestly, his face was full of frustration right now. The thought of blaming the creature that dragged him here was still haunting him as he thought about where it had gone to. Since both he and the beast crash-landed into this dome, how can it be this quiet until now?

Perhaps the creature is dead from the crash?

Assuming it was dead from the crash is like treating a soil-eating creature as fragile as a raw egg. That's even more impossible. By comparing himself, the tree, the Tyrant, and this creature's durability, even the former three combined wouldn't be as durable as this monster.

Zhang Qin Feng searched for a flat surface to sat down. Taking a few breaths to relax, it followed by searching for a canned tuna paste with mayonnaise. Perhaps only comfort food like this canned fish could eliminate his nervousness and feeling of claustrophobia in an enclosed room.

'Satella is going to laugh at me if I told her I felt claustrophobic inside a dome as large as this one.' Zhang Qin Feng takes a look around before laughing at himself.

He continued after finishing the canned fish. Maybe it was a hint of uncertainty in his head. Zhang Qin Feng wrapped the can and its lid together using a waste bag and shoved it back into his rucksack. He had no idea that this precaution actually saved him from some unforeseen trouble.

Another hour has passed after finishing the canned tuna.

Zhang Qin Feng is once again feeling exhausted from exerting his attention over his surrounding. Although it was evident that this place doesn't seem to have any zombies inside, his heart was throbbing nonstop from his own sixth sense. He was curious about how this place comes into existence and why it was not infested by the zombies.

It felt that all common sense that he knew of was broken apart by some invisible lines here and there. Furthermore, these broken lines were the crucial point that connected everything together, from how this Seed Crystal Virus come into existence until after the outbreak.

'Stein, can you hear me?' Zhang Qin Feng called for the system. It looks like the system was too preoccupied and only managed to reply to his call after a few seconds.

[Yes. The system is listening...]

Stein replied to Zhang Qin Feng's calling.

'What really happened during the virus outbreak? Even the most serious viral outbreak, such as the Black Death, Human Immunodeficiency Virus, and Avian Flu Virus back in my world, wasn't as deadly as this.'

'How can this world, with technological achievement much better than where I came from, failed to contain the virus from spreading?' Zhang Qin Feng asked. There's actually a reason behind his suspicion.

What if...

This entire thing was actually a conspiracy between a specific party? Hell, maybe alien or extra-terrestrial beings might be involved in this.

[The system has no answer to this question. Based on the record from the creator, the arrival of this virus was too fast and sudden. Out of the multiple reasons for humanity here to be wiped out, the system's creator suspected that the Seed Crystal Virus has actually been with us longer than we have imagined.]

[This is also one of the reasons we choose to select a suitable candidate from a different dimension to assist us in fighting against this viral outbreak. Part of the evaluation of the candidate would have to be having the same genome structure like ours, culture, and lifestyle.]

'Wait... Does that suspicion means...I am being treated as a lab rat at the same time while getting benefit from you?' Zhang Qin Feng felt a little emotional when he's thinking about this matter. With so many doses of serum injected into his body, won't he be counted as part infected since all the serum was doctored and manufactured from the Viral Sample?

He might have protection from the system and access to the Decrystalization Serum. Still, the others, like Wang Yufei and Jun Minji, had no antibody towards this Seed Crystal Virus at all. What if it was infectious as how it was here? Won't it make him looked like the carrier that introduced the virus back to his own world?

His mind gets messier the further he thinks about it.

'No wonder people say that ignorance was bliss.' Zhang Qin Feng rubbed his forehead to ease his headache from overthinking.

'I should keep looking for an exit. This place is too eerie, and staying longer here won't be good for my mental health. I should search for the door with haste before my mental defense collapse due to all these invisible pressures.' Zhang Qin Feng took a deep breath and slapped himself.

Getting back on his foot and searching along the walls again, Zhang Qin Feng continues with his one-man effort. A blob of mucus soon fell where he sat earlier and contaminated that spot with a weird earthy smell.

An indiscernible wriggling silhouette seems to be following Zhang Qin Feng on his mission to search for an exit.

Four hours later, from the second he arrived inside this dome, Zhang Qin Feng finally found the first clue of his whereabouts. Using the torchlight in hand, Zhang Qin Feng moves the beam from the left to the right to read what was printed along the walls.

"Shangwen Provincial Incineration Chamber? Was this place an incineration chamber?" Zhang Qin Feng moved the light around to see if there's anything else printed on the walls.

His effort found nothing but danger as he spotted two earthworm-like creatures latching on the walls just a little further from the words.

"F*CK! F*CK! F*CK!" Zhang Qin Feng almost dropped the torchlight in his hand. The light continues to move around, and their number was not just a mere two or three, but hundreds!
