Li Ran stepped on the breaks. The car let out a screeching sound and it was ear-piercing.
“The noise might attract the zombies, but it’s not a problem since there aren’t many zombies around here. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have asked you to stop here,” Wang Gang said confidently. He was very sure of himself because he had collected plenty of information previously.
This was his unique talent as an ex-special forces soldier.
“Where did you come from? How well do you know the circumstances around here?”
Li Ran did not want to expose the mysterious space here. After all, there was no way to predict the consequences. So, just like an ordinary person, she had to scavenge for food.
“There’s a supermarket over there that has been turned into a safety base. It’s very big because it used to be a landmark building. They have a lot of things and there are not many people. I think it’s a good place to go. Before this, we had no means of transportation so we were stuck living in the shadows.”
Wang Gang’s suggestion was great. He clearly explained everything.
Li Ran turned her car around towards the direction that Wang Gang was pointing at without much hesitation. She asked, “Do you know the way? Can you lead me there?”
Wang Gang was slightly surprised. Li Ran’s boldness made him admire her. He chuckled and said, “Yes. I’ll lead the way.”
They went all the way south. There were many residential areas around, but they looked barren and gloomy.
Zhao Ying, who was sitting at the back, looked outside through the windows. It sent a shiver down her spine.
She said softly, “I’ve been here before. Back then, everything was so warm and full of life. Now, it looks so empty. I feel like there’s a layer of gray barrier covering the place.”
After hearing what Zhao Ying said, Gu Jin reached out his hand and pulled her into his arms. He rubbed her shoulders to comfort her. There was nothing he could say.
It was hard to believe that he went from a celebrity to a person who did not wash his face for a month. Of course, it was not a choice. Reality had been cruel to him.
Li Ran drove at a high speed all the way to the supermarket that Wang Gang had mentioned.
After some time, they finally arrived and the entrance was right in front of them. However, it would be difficult to proceed. There were corpses everywhere, and there was no way to tell if they were zombies or humans. Broken limbs could also be seen everywhere.
Li Ran continued to drive without a trace of fear on her face. On the other hand, Zhao Ying was in shambles. Tears kept falling from her eyes and her face was filled with despair.
They drove around the supermarket and reached the back door. It was huge.
The door was opened and it seemed to be tailored for big cars to enter.
There were no bodies around and Li Ran was about to drive in.
However, Wang Gang stopped her just in time.
“There’s a lot hidden by trees over there. Let’s park there and walk-in instead.”
Li Ran looked at him in confusion. The car was obviously faster and safer.
Wang Gang explained, “Your car will become a big target. It’s too dangerous.”
Naturally, it would be best to avoid unnecessary fights.
Yang Shao had followed Wang Gang all the way ever since the apocalypse started. So, he understood what the man was saying.
“It’s relatively easy to deal with zombies but people with unique abilities can be complicated. Just listen to him, won’t you?”
Li Ran asked curiously, “Are those abilities very common?”
“For sure. The two of us went to a safe base once but they said they would not accept anyone without special abilities,” said Yang Shao as he shrugged his shoulders.
“Alright, let’s get moving.”
Wang Gang was not really bothered. He just needed to find a place to stay!
As Zhao Ying and Gu Jin were about to get off the car, Li Ran said, “You guys should wait for us in the car, just in case. Besides, Zhao Zhao needs someone to take care of him.”
Furthermore, the two of them had no combat abilities. If they could not protect themselves, they would only be a hindrance if anything happened. It would be better for them to stay until the place was confirmed to be safe.
