A Star Reborn: The Queen’s Return

Chapter 1376 - Earthquake

Chapter 1376: Earthquake

He’d spent so many years looking for her, not for this sad ending.

As time ticked away, the energy in Wei Lingnan’s body was depleting to naught, but he was still unwilling to loosen his grip on her hand.

Gu Jinxiu entered with two bottles, both of which held a drug that let off a faint blue glow. The bottles seemed identical, and she handed one of them to Wei Lingnan. “Nan, this is the drug I made with my energy. One bottle for each of you, you’ll be fine once you drink it.”

She then went to Xia Yingluo’s bedside, bent over and fed her the other bottle of drug.

A strange expression flashed in Wei Lingnan’s eyes as he watched her.

“Jinxiu,” he said all of a sudden, stopping her. “Yingluo is very weak right now, she wouldn’t be able to take such a high dosage at once. Dilute the drug before letting her have it slowly. Don’t feed her too quickly, she won’t be able to stand it.”

Gu Jinxiu was slightly stunned. “She’ll be fine.”

“Do as I say.” Wei Lingnan was firm. “You’ve only just learned to make drugs, and she’s on the verge of dying. We can’t take the risk.”

Gu Jinxiu was unwilling, but she knew that there was no good in insisting on doing it her way. She held onto the drug and looked for some water to dilute it.

Wei Lingnan watched as she left. He then used his last bit of strength to open his bottle and feed Xia Yingluo.

“Nan!” Gu Jinxiu looked on in shock, with the diluted drug in her hands. She dashed forward and snatched the bottle from his hand, smashing it on the ground. “What are you doing?!”

Horrified, Xia Yingluo had already consumed every single drop of that drug.

“I’m sorry, I lied to you.” Wei Lingnan’s voice was weak, and he smiled while apologizing. “I know that you’ve never liked Yingluo, so I was afraid that you’d tamper with her drug.”

“So you got me to leave, and then fed her your drug?” Gu Jinxiu was enraged.

“I’m sorry.” Wei Lingnan apologized again.

Gu Jinxiu heaved with anger as she looked at this man sitting on the floor, completely exhausted. She put in so much of her energy into making his drug, and he did this to her?! “You’re too much!”

But Wei Lingnan said, “Too much? Jinxiu, then hand me the drug in your hands.”

Gu Jinxiu’s hands tensed up.

Wei Lingnan did not miss that subtle movement and said sarcastically, “You dare not give it to me, am I right? That’s because the drug in your hands is ineffective, or maybe, even lethal. Although the bottles look the same, only mine was really effective.”

“That’s not it.” Gu Jinxiu rebuked softly.

“It isn’t? Then let me drink it,” Wei Lingnan said calmly, but it seemed like he had it all figured out.

Gu Jinxiu erupted with anger. “Yes! I wanted to kill her, so what! Wei Lingnan, how could you ask me to save her! She ruined our marriage and used up every ounce of your energy! Why should I save her?! Did you have it all figured out from the start? You got me to make the drug, knowing that I wouldn’t leave you in the lurch. You made use of my feelings for you… and then fed the drug I so painfully made to that slut!”

“She’s not a slut.” His voice went even weaker now.

Gu Jinxiu felt a stab to her heart. “You didn’t deny it, so it’s true…”

She pointed a finger at him and began laughing hysterically. “Hahaha, what a joke. I am the Queen, but you’re colluding with another woman against me! Wei Lingnan, don’t you care for her so? Do you think she’ll be well just because of the drug you fed her? Don’t you forget,” she fiddled with the bottle in her hand, “I still have this poison with me! I’ll let her die before your eyes!”

“Stop!” Only then did Wei Lingnan’s expression change. He struggled to get up and take the bottle from her, only to have her shove him aside.

Gu Jinxiu seemed to have gone insane. She tipped Xia Yingluo’s chin up, opened her mouth and poured the liquid down.

“Yingluo!” Wei Lingnan yelled in agony as if his heart had been ripped apart. He watched on hopelessly as the liquid entered her body between her parched lips.

“Yingluo…”

Gu Jinxiu emptied the bottle into Xia Yingluo’s mouth, smiled menacingly and then went off to retrieve a second bottle.

That was when the ground began shaking. The ceiling lights swung, the walls crumbled and the ground opened up… voices of the employees outside could be heard—

“What’s going on? An earthquake?!”

“Run! Earthquake!”

The ground opened up, more and more…

The laboratory was split in two. Gu Jinxiu held onto a wall fixture tightly so as not to slip into the large gaps.

As the ground tilted more significantly, the bed Xia Yingluo was lying on was about to slide into the abyss as well.

Adrenaline rushed through Wei Lingnan as he found the strength to grab onto her hand tightly while the bed slid into the gap. Half of her body was off the edge too, in a precarious position. She was unconscious and oblivious to this, and he dared not loosen his grip a wee bit. All he had in his mind was to hold onto her hand, no matter what happened….

His body changed forms—his long, slender human legs slowly toughened up into the hind legs of a beast, his claws emerged and left scratches on the ground of the laboratory. Just as he was about to fall into the abyss with her, the massive earthquake came to a stop. A new area of ground was formed slowly, supporting the part of her body that was hanging off the edge, until she was lying safe and flat.

Wei Lingnan finally heaved a sigh of relief. How had the earthquake come about? He’d built this base centuries ago, and nothing of this sort had ever happened since. He lay beside her on the renewed surface, devoid of energy, but still wanting to take a look at her face.

Her skin was shrivelled and dry. Gu Jinxiu’s second drug on her had taken effect, and now, her eyes, ears, nose, and mouth were bleeding.
