Li Bingman was exasperated. She was the butt of the joke because of this woman’s naivety! But there was nothing she could do about it. If there was one rule of thumb that everyone had to follow when interacting with Xia Ling, it was—

Tolerate everything, no matter how intolerable.

This was someone she couldn’t afford to offend.

But having had to bear with such grievances for so many years, Li Bingman had long wanted to skin this woman alive. That was why she lost control of herself and began spreading rumors the moment she thought that Xia Ling had lost favor.

And yet, it was all back to square one now. She was full of regret and fear now, and she sobbed even more miserably. “Xiao Ling, I’ve really never spread rumors about you. Please, please believe me…”

Xia Ling had been in a bad mood recently and could not be bothered to entertain her. She gave a cold “hmph” and walked off.

Chu Chen didn’t have to care about this small fry—yes, in comparison to Xia Ling, even a tier-one actress like Li Bingman was no more than a “small fry”. He followed Xia Ling out and noticed that she was staggering.

He whipped his cell phone out and gave Pei Ziheng a call.

Only after that did he catch up with Xia Ling and followed her to the exclusive lounge upstairs for some rest.

The lounge was bright and spacious with beautiful decorative plants and a basket full of fruits that gave off a refreshing scent. Xia Ling’s abdomen was getting increasingly painful, but she took comfort in this familiar space. However, she dared not sit, nor make herself comfortable. Her intention was to have a miscarriage and this was the best opportunity.

She turned to Chu Chen. “You can leave, I want to be alone here on my own.”

But Chu Chen did not move. “Xiao Ling, sit down and rest. I’ll go get you some water.”

Xia Ling wanted him to leave so that she could do some strenuous exercise to lose the baby. Seeing that he wasn’t acting according to her wishes, fury rose inside her. “Did Pei Ziheng send you here to spy on me?!”

Chu Chen paused a moment before saying, “I’m your manager, it’s my duty to take care of you.”

Xia Ling wasn’t appeased. “Get out!”

“Don’t get too agitated, it’s not good for the baby,” Chu Chen spoke to her calmly. “I can’t be at ease leaving you here on your own. Just bear with it for now, once the baby’s born, I’ll let you have your way.”

She glared at him and understood that he wasn’t going to give in. “Okay, you want to stay here, don’t you? Do what you like!” She turned around and walked away.

Chu Chen asked her, “Where are you going?”

“I’m going to the bathroom, do you need to come along too?”

The man in a suit kept quiet and stayed where he was.

Xia Ling raised her chin gleefully—well, she was witty enough to think of this. As long as she stayed in the bathroom for a while longer, jumping about and hitting her abdomen, it’d be difficult not to lose this baby.

At this point, however, the door of the lounge was opened from the outside.

Xia Ling saw Pei Ziheng approaching. He always looked stern, but this time he seemed colder than before. “Does it hurt you not to cause trouble for a day?”

Chu Chen took a few steps back to make way for Pei Ziheng’s entrance.

Xia Ling felt a chill down her spine as she saw him. Right then, she understood what was going on and yelled at Chu Chen, “You traitor!”

Chu Chen kept his head low and remained quiet.

Pei Ziheng was now standing before her and looking down at her. “I got him to keep an eye on you. You’re the one who’s at fault now, so don’t blame someone else for this.” Seeing that she was fighting with someone else while expecting, Chu Chen couldn’t help but worry for her. He hurriedly called Pei Ziheng, who dropped everything and rushed over immediately.

Thankfully, although she looked a little pale, there didn’t seem to be a major issue.

Xia Ling was enraged. “Your people are everywhere, I don’t have any freedom at all!”

“As long as you listen to me, you’ll always be free.”

“You tyrant!”

“So what if I’m a tyrant.” Pei Ziheng smirked. “I’ve been so nice to you for so many years, but how have you repaid me? Don’t think I don’t know that you’re trying to kill our child.”

“You!”

“Go to the hospital with me for a check,” Pei Ziheng said.

Xia Ling glared at him and took a step back. “I won’t!”

Pei Ziheng didn’t even bother to waste more time talking it out with her. He scooped her up and strode out. Meanwhile, Chu Chen hurriedly went to open the door for him.

Xia Ling screamed, “Pei Ziheng, let me down! You beast!” She struggled with all her might, but he held her too tightly. She went hysterical as she hit and bit him, but he didn’t even flinch.

The elevator descended.

A whole lot of people were going about their business in the lobby.

A few of them appeared confused and bewildered as they saw the chairman carry such a beautiful girl in his arms. The girl was screaming and cursing the meanest words at him, but he seemed unbothered by her. He even kindly grabbed her hand, worried that she might hurt herself. Only Xia Ling—and no one else, ever—could act so insanely in front of him.

Chu Chen watched as they got into the car, but did not tag along.

There was some important business that Chu Chen had to attend to on Pei Ziheng’s behalf.

Thankfully, someone else was in charge of her now. Chu Chen felt that he deserved a drink before attending to the important business. After all, it was more difficult to serve Xia Ling than to negotiate a deal.

Someone called out behind him, “Chu Chen?”

He turned around and smiled. “Secretary Xie.”

Secretary Xie was a 20-odd-year-old girl. She was in office attire and had on very suitable light makeup. Having been at this job for years, she used to be Pei Ziheng’s second secretary. She was promoted recently to be his main secretary and found it beneficial to be on good terms with someone like Chu Chen.

She asked with a smile, “Boss carried Miss Xia out?”

Chu Chen wasn’t about to offend Pei Ziheng’s main secretary either. He nodded. “Yes, they just left. By the look of things, he probably won’t be back here anytime today. Secretary Xie, I’ll need you to attend the meeting with me later on.”

Secretary Xie said, “It’s only right of me.” She paused before adding, “Boss is really nice to Miss Xia.”

“Exactly.” Chu Chen smiled. “Have you ever seen anyone else who could shout at him this way?”

Secretary Xie thought for a while before saying, “This is the first time I’ve seen them in such a huge argument.”
