Young Master in the Apocalypse

Chapter 8 - Evolution

“Young Master, are you alright?!”

Torri shouted while staring at the tattered corpse of the mutated rabbit lying on top of Viktor’s body at the moment.

Slowly, the latter pushed off the heavy body of the mutated rabbit’s corpse to the side and stood up.

“Dont worry about me, just stand guard!”

“Yes, young master!” The bodyguard answered readily as his eyes quickly wandered around in search of anything suspicious.

Viktor walked a few steps away from the guard and stood behind a tree, peeking to make sure that no one was listening to their conversation. With a quick whisper, he asked.

“Djinn, what the fuck is with this spirit force and other things?!”

<Kekekeke! Well, I should have told you before.. But I decided not to… don’t you like surprises?”>

“No, I don’t! Now tell me quickly, what is this all about?!”-.

<i ll just show you.> Djinn sighed and said. <Show status>

Right as Viktor heard those words, another notification came to the forefront of his mind’s eyes. There were rows of numbers, and Viktor stared at them with a surprised expression evident on his face.

Fortunately, he had chosen to hide himself. Otherwise, Torri would certainly wonder as to why his young master’s face suddenly became like that.

[Strength – 12]

[Agility – 15 ]

[Endurance – 12 ]

[Battle power – 13]

[Spirit force – 2]

It was not only numbers. A ton of unknown information started to flood into his mind as well, details regarding what the numbers truly entail.

The numbers represent the current state of his body; he also received information that 10 was the standard state of a healthy, adult male human.

Even though Viktor liked to party every day and spent most of his time relaxing, he was still a pretty fit person as he enjoyed exercising for a few hours every day. Hence, his body was a bit stronger than the average human.

Strength is the number that represents his muscle power, hence it would affect the power behind his punches, his kicks, or the height of his jumps. Agility is the number that represents his body flexibility, which would help him react and move his body faster in any situation. Meanwhile, endurance represents his stamina, bone density, the hardness of his skin and flesh, also the speed at which his body could heal itself.

As for his battle power, it was the average number calculated from all three of his physical stats.

However, the spirit force stat made him a little confused. The information he received said that spirit force represents the amount of spiritual energy that was stored within his body.

“Spiritual energy…?” muttered Viktor in a low voice. Suddenly, a thought popped into his mind and a look of disbelief appeared on his face. “Wait, magic?”

<Yes, more or less, it is used to cast magic or use skills that required spirit energy.> Djinn’s words had basically confirmed this random guess of his.

The revelation was a little overwhelming for Viktor, and the fact he received stats from a mutated rabbit only exacerbated his confusion. The Djinn did not really give a useful explanation, either.

<You were lucky, for you live at a time when a world is undergoing an evolution. Right now, rich spirit energy permeated the air, and it will affect all creatures indiscriminately, human or otherwise.>

Viktor could guess the last statement the Djinn mention has something to do with the pandemic happening on earth right now, but he couldn’t say that as being lucky at all.

He then took a deep sigh once again, although It was still a confusing explanation, Viktor could picture what the Djinn was trying to say a little bit. After all, even though he preferred playing sports and shooter type of games, he did sometimes play AAA role playing games.

“Alright so. Simply put, if I kill more of those mutated creatures, then I could get stronger?”

<Exactly>

Viktor took a deep breath to calm himself. To be honest, a part of him was truly excited about this, but right as he did, he remembered about the timer on his quest. As if on cue, the numbers suddenly popped out in his mind’s eye.

[You have 1 hour and 32 minutes left]

Time is of the essence, and even though it said he still had one and a half hours left, that countdown was pointing to the time he originally died. In other words, way before that time would run out, the black monster would have started charging through the bunker.

Considering what he knew from his previous death, it was safe to say that the monster would arrive at the bunker within an hour mark, which meant he had roughly half an hour to do something significant.

His time was running short, and the more time he used to dilly-dallying meant that the monster was getting closer while he was basically still the same him who died in the previous life.

Viktor was left to make a difficult decision.

A. Locate the monster and find a way to make sure it didn’t come to the bunker

B. Run away from the bunker while he still could before the monster comes

C. Get stronger fast to increase his survival chances when the monster comes

Option A was a bit too unreliable, and there was no way he would put his life to mere chances. He couldn’t just throw the dice and hope that his luck would hold, nor could he waste time wandering around looking for a monster that is obviously way too powerful for him to face alone.

If he chose option B, there are two ways to go about it. One was to arm everyone who were inside and take them to flee together, and the second, take everything he could, some of the remaining supplies, and run away alone.

One is easier than the other, but either way, Viktor has no intention to choose either. That would mean he would no longer be able to enjoy his parties anymore. No bunker means no protection, and no protection means no more party.

Also, although the threat was real, he was not sure he could convince or force everyone to run with him. Most likely, he would be declared insane if he announced there was a monster coming to get them.

Hence, the only thing Viktor could do was take the third option. Use the remaining one hour to strengthen himself while hoping that option A would succeed.

With that in mind, Viktor told Torri to stay on guard in front of the bunker and send him a signal if he found any hint of trouble. Meanwhile, he himself would walk towards where captain Patroski was heading in hope that he would find a few mutated animals along the way.

“Here… kitty… kitty… Where are you?”

Viktor’s whispered throughout the woods completely enveloped in snow. He continued to walk around for 5 minutes, looking for any mutated animals. But he found nothing.

He then heard a ruckus not far from him. Viktor quickly made his way toward the commotion, only to see the captain and his two men fighting a group of shambling undead.

“Ahhh… Let’s see if these undead monsters could make me stronger as well!!”
