Villain's Rising

23 23. True Feelings

Sam hopped up and dodged the incoming head of the translucent snake that Kiara was controlling.

While he was in mid-air, the giant snake that he had just evaded, twisted its body and attacked him again. Threatening to bite him off before he could get his feet on the ground.

Sam however didn’t even flinch, he activated his [Ability Negation] in counter.

His bright scarlet eyes glowed with a dull white hue, and the incoming snake that was about to attack him in mid-air vanished into thin air.

Not only that but Kiara’s cyan-colored reptilian-looking vertical pupil reverted back to their normal purple.

Not only does she have the power to partially/fully change her physiology into snake-like, but she can also summon normal/mythological snakes made of pure energy to attack her prey from a distance.

A broken ability to say the least, but then again, what good is it when faced with an ability that can nullify other abilities.

Sam landed a few steps away from Kiara. He cracked his neck and started approaching her.

“How… What?! That was White Walker’s ability!” Kiara exclaimed in incredulity.

“Now do you get it, Kiara? I’m a God! No one in this world is strong enough to stop me!” Sam dramatically raised both of his hands in the air with a wide grin materialized on his face.

His eyes had a look of madness in them. However, his demeanor quickly regressed back to normal as he remembered something.

“I mean there are these guys, I honestly don’t know what’s the deal with them.” Sam shook his head and pointed his thumb at the hanging girl as he recalled the only people that he couldn’t kill.

Sam placed both of his hands on Kiara’s shoulders, “Anyway, my point is you don’t have to be scared of me! We can have this world for ourselves! No one will be able to come between us! I’ll find a way to deal with these Willburn pests and then we’ll have our happily ever after!”

He tried to persuade the girl he loved one last time. He wanted to rule the world but he also wanted her to be by his side, it was his only dream since as far as he could remember..

Kiara instantly jerked his hands off her shoulders and lunged back.

“Sam please don’t talk like a deranged person, it’s still not too late! Just hand her over and surrender! You know as well as I do, how dangerous is Progenitor’s power. If you really have them then just surrender! Please, this world won’t be able to endure another cataclysm like The Dark Ages!” Kiara pleaded but her eyes sharply watching his every movements.

“…What? What are you even talking about? Why do you care about the world and stuff? You should only care about me! It wasn’t the world that stuck with you through your nonsense! It was me! Why the fuck would I care about the world going down in flames if I were to do what I want to?!” Sam grimaced and spoke in clear anger.

However he quickly calmed himself down, but Kiara slowly took a step back after seeing how erratic Sam was behaving.

She had no doubt in her mind that he truly was the Progenitor as he was claiming after the earlier display of his power.

Not only he was able to dodge Kiara’s barrage of snake assaults but he also suppressed her ability. A feat only one superhero could do in history, and he was long dead.

“Sam…”

“And what do you mean by surrender?! Do you mean I should just get on my knees and let them kill me?! I may be the Progenitor but I never asked for it!” Sam yelled before taking a deep breath and started messaging his eyebrows.

“I thought that my father was wrong… I thought if anyone could love me even if I belong from the bloodline of The Demon, it would be you. I see now that I was wrong, how can I ever expect you to love me now when you never did.”

Kiara took another step back as the atmosphere in the basement started getting heavier, the eerie aura Sam was radiating was replaced by pure killing intent.

“Sam listen…” She tried to talk reason but what could even she say? Just let yourself be killed?

After the Progenitor was defeated the persecution of his bloodline followed. Every future potential threat was disposed of. No one left to avenge him, no one left to carry out of his will.

However, there was always this rumor that few belonging to his lineage survived the persecution. Although as the time passed, the rumor was suppressed by authorities and was dubbed as a false news.

It was to prevent a pointless commotion. People returned to their normal lives and the rumor was forgotten.

However, to Kiara’s surprise, the story that she was told as a kid was authentic, people from his bloodline did survive and her childhood friend is one of them! Not only one of them but also the holder of his power.

Kiara gritted her teeth and clenched her fists, “Yes!” She mumbled.

“…What?” Sam frowned in response.

“Yes! I want you to surrender, if you really are the current Progenitor then you should let them take you. You must atone for the crimes of your ancestor, don’t risk the peace of this world again!” Kiara blurted out.

A moment of silence followed in the underground basement. The cellar was spacious and mostly unoccupied, so every word that she spoke echoed throughout the room and like a knife stabbed Sam right in his feels.

“I see,” he uttered, “I thought if anyone could accept me as I am, it would be you. I loved you but I now know, you never felt the same for me in fact, you hated me… aren’t I right?”

Kiara widened her eyes as the realization hit her. If he has the power of Progenitor, not only he can read her mind but also her memories!

Kiara instantly jumped back and created maximum distance between them.

“Sam listen-“

“Why is that huh?” Sam cut off Kiara and started walking towards her by taking slow uncanny steps.

“Sam stay back!” Kiara cried out, she tried to activate her ability but she couldn’t.

If she were to take a closer look back then she would’ve seen that Sam’s body was constantly excluding the waves of a faint white aura.

That was the [Ability Negation] he took from White Walker right before he died.

“Why do you hate me? What have I ever done for you to hate me?!” Sam screamed and grabbed Kiara by her neck.

“Sam… Please…” Kiara tried to speak but only whimpers came out as the pressure on her throat started to make her choke on air.

“Let me see for myself!” Sam exclaimed and readied to tap himself into her mind.

His eyes shone with bright violet and within the span of a single second, Sam viewed all of Kiara’s life worth of memories.

Sam’s ability [Biokinesis] can let him what ever he wants to any living being, one of them is being able aware of their emotion.

When he tried to sense Kiara’s emotions for him earlier, he sensed nothing but bitterness for himself.

He needed to know why, and the only way to do that is to see Kiara’s perspective. Why would she ever hate him? Sam?! He has always been by her side! Then why?!

After a second what felt like an eternity to him, he let go of Kiara’s neck. His eyes questioned the silver-haired girl standing in front of him.

“Your father? You hate me because your father likes me?!” Sam scowled in absurdity. “You hate me coz of your dammed father?!”

Kiara bit her lower lip in fury and spoke out, “Yes! Always! It has always been about you! Even the 59th division of our clan, I was supposed to handle that team but my father gifted it to you! I never wanted to be a villain, but you convinced him I could! It was my task to kill White Walker but you even snatched that from me!”

Disdain and contempt were clearly visible in her eyes. Was she hiding her true feelings all this time? From their childhood to adolescence, she always hated Sam?

Thoughts like that clouded over Sam’s mind. He closed his eyes and dropped his head, he took deep breaths to calm his raging heart down. He wasn’t angry, he was disappointed. Disappointed not in her but in himself.

His feelings fogged his judgment of her character, he felt like a fool.

“I see, regardless, I’m creating a new world Kiara, it’ll be built with or even without you,” Sam whispered in a regretful tone and stretched his hand.

Kiara instinctively tried to make a run for it, she knew it was too late to talk this out. She pushed away Sam with all her strength and dashed towards the basement exit with maximum speed she could muster.

However, before she could even exit the death room, her legs gave up for some reason and she fell to the ground.

“Wha…?” She tried to get herself up but even her hands felt powerless.

“Thanks for proving my father correct.” Sam’s cold voice rang in her ears, immediately striking something akin to fear in her heart.

She tried to turn her head to look back but a foot stomped her down on her place. A single tear fell from Sam’s eyes as he spoke again,

“All my enemies will die, even if it’s you. Goodbye Kiara.” He prepared himself to turn every cell in Kiara’s body into mush.

-Cling!

Before he could do so, however, a loud metal breaking noise resounded throughout the basement.

Sam quickly turned his head around to look at the source of disturbance, and when he did, he couldn’t help but utter profanity.

“Ah fuck! I thought we still had at least 40 minutes left!” Sam exclaimed at the absurdity.

It was Rebekah, she was coming to her senses. One of the shackles holding her to the wall already broke like it was made of cardboard.

Every time Sam crushes her heart, it takes Rebekah at least an hour to get back into her senses. But it’s been hardly 10 minutes since she fell ‘asleep’, how can she wake up so early?!

“Fine then!” Sam said and hastily proceeded to finish his business with Kiara.

-Cling!

“Sam please! Don’t do it! Please!” Kiara pleaded but her words didn’t fall into Sam’s ears. His body radiated a violet glow and Kiara started to feel a burning pain throughout her body.

“Arghhhhhh!!!” An ear-piercing scream reverberated in the basement.

The pain she felt was like every cell in her body was set on fire.

She couldn’t even activate her ability to resist, all she could do was lay down and take it all while pleading and screaming in agony.

Within a second her conscience began waning and third-degree burns appeared on her body.

Without notice Sam’s lips curled upwards, it was almost as if he was enjoying it.

However, before he could indulge in the pleasure any more, something akin to a moving truck struck his body.

The momentum was so tremendous that it sent him flying a few meters back, only stopping when his body crashed onto the wall.

“Why don’t you fight someone of your own size?” A voice laced with sadistic overtone spoke out.

“Ahh…” Sam looked up after groaning in pain to see a flaxen-haired girl standing a few steps away from him, “Not again!”
