The Wife of Hades

Suddenly, she saw a pair of small girly shoes and heard a soft voice say, "You are very handsome."

He looked up a little confusedly and saw the familiar girl that always sat in the corner, "Thank you." 

"You're welcome."

He saw the missing tooth in her array of small teeth and couldn't help but laugh.

"What are you laughing about?" 

The two of them talked for a very long time, and she sat down next to him. After a while, he thought that she was a cute girl and found it weird that no one else liked her.

But he was happy about that! Without anyone else as her friend, he would be her only friend. 

After playtime was over, the two of them went to go eat. Although he liked to eat meat, seeing how short she was, he decided to be generous and give his portion of meat over to her. She seemed very happy about it.

--- One week later

For the entire week, the two of them played with each other and their relationship grew stronger with each day.

The other kids quickly noticed that the two loners had formed a group, and they refused to talk or play with the two of them.

Soon after, the other girls in the room Li Yixin lived in started bullying her and calling her the murderer's friend. 

In anger, she ran out of her room at night and couldn't find anyone else, so she went to Mo Han's room. His lights were closed already as he lived alone, and she made her way over to the bed in the darkness.

Her hands moved around in the air before finding his sleeve, and she tugged on it gently, "Brother Yelin. Brother Yelin. . ."

Mo Han slowly opened his eyes and he instinctively pushed An Luxia's hand away, "Who are you?! What are you doing here?"

An Luxia, who had the name of Li Yixin at that time since it was her biological name, started crying. She was being bullied by those mean girls and even now, her brother Yelin was mean to her!

Mo Yelin blinked a few times in surprise as he reached for the lamp switch. 

He turned it on and saw that it was Li Yixin, "Xiner, what are you doing here?"

An Luxia wiped away her tears, "The girls are being mean to me. Can I sleep with you?" 

Mo Han thought for a few seconds. He was 8 already and much older than Li Yixin. Although she didn't know that it was not fit for a girl and boy to sleep together, he did. 

However, he still nodded, "Okay."

He moved over on the tiny bed and lifted the blanket up, allowing Li Yixin to crawl in. She was still breathing quickly as she wiped away the leftover tears in her eyes.

Mo Han closed the lamp before laying down himself. Before he could even close his eyes, he felt two small arms wrap around his waist and his eyes widened as they darted around in the darkness. 

"You. . ."

He looked down and saw that Li Yixin had her eyes closed already and seemed to be sleeping soundly. 

He frowned slightly before closing his eyes as well, turning around slightly and placing one hand onto her waist, "Good night."

The next morning, when the worker that woke everyone up arrived at Mo Han's room, she immediately screamed upon seeing Li Yixin.

"Xiner, what are you doing here?!"

Li Yixin rubbed her eyes before sitting up on the bed, "Miss Wu, I don't like my room. The girls there are mean to me. Can I sleep with brother Yelin?"

Miss Wu furrowed her eyebrows together upon hearing Li Yixin's word choice, and she scratched her head before saying, "That's not right, Xiner. He is a boy and you are a girl. You should stay in the girls' dormitory."

An Luxia frowned, "Why can't a girl sleep with a boy?"

Miss Wu's cheeks turned slightly red, "Well. . . they can. It's just. . . Ah, I'll go ask Mrs. Wang."

"Okay!" An Luxia said excitedly. Mrs. Wang loved her and agreed to anything she said. She would definitely agree to also let her live with Yelin as well!

And indeed, she did.

That afternoon, Li Yixin's belongings were moved to Mo Yelin's private room and the bed across from Mo Yelin was also set up. 

Li Yixin happily moved in and the two of them started staying inside their room more of the time and doing everything together. 

--- 10 months later

Li Yixin stood unhappily at the doorway, watching as Mrs. Wang talked with the adult couple. 

She twiddled her thumbs as she looked down at the floor, refusing to look up or listen to what they were talking about.

She knew what they were talking about.

They just wanted to separate her and her brother Yelin!

"Come here, Xiner." Mrs. Wang turned around and waved at Li Yixin.

Li Yixin finally looked up unhappily, pursing her lips out. The man and woman were all smiling at her, and she squeezed a fake smile back before slowly walking over, grabbing onto Mrs. Wang's hand.

"Xiner, this is Mr. and Mrs. An. They are very nice people and they want to take you home!"

Li Yixin frowned, "Mrs. Wang, I don't want to leave."

Mrs. Wang blinked a few times before bending down, "Xiner, you will have your own home with Mr. and Mrs. An. Trust me, it will be great!"

Li Yixin's frown deepened and she looked away, "Then can brother Yelin come with me?"

An Ping and Qi Lanyu looked at each other and Mrs. Wang quickly explained, "Oh, Yelin is another boy at our adoption center. They are very close."

Qi Lanyu sighed, not wanting to tear the two little kids apart, but knowing that they had no plans of adopting another boy.

--- One week later

After a lot of persuasion and procedures and promises, Li Yixin, who now had the new name of An Luxia, was finally going to leave the adoption center.

She packed up her stuff in one large suitcase and slowly rolled it down the empty hallway, making her way into the room where Mrs. Wang and her new family were waiting.

As she walked down, there was suddenly the sound of footsteps running down the hallway and she stopped, looking back to see Mo Yelin.

"Brother Yelin!"

Mo Yelin ran over and stopped in front of her, looking down at her. In the past few months, he had grown even taller and he was almost two heads taller than her now. 

"You're leaving now?"

Li Yixin nodded her head gravely.

"Here, take this." Mo Yelin reached down and slipped the silver ring he always wore out of his finger.

"What?! But that -"

"Take it." Mo Yelin said once again, forcibly putting the ring into her hand.

Li Yixin looked down at the sparkling silver ring for several long seconds before smiling, putting it onto her ring finger. The ring moved back and forth, obviously too big for her tiny finger.

"Thank you."

Mo Yelin cleared his throat and looked up a little awkwardly, "I will come find you after I grow up."

Li Yixin nodded her head excitedly, "Pinky promise! You have to come find me."

Mo Yelin rolled his eyes but still lifted his pinky up. After their pinky ceremony was over, Li Yixin unwillingly turned around and slowly walked down the hallway alone, disappearing into the room.

After that, they never saw each other again for several years.
