The Rise of the White Lotus

Chapter 36 - Sorry

Lexi's eyes constricted in that very instant. Her eyes landed on Ethan's laid out palm and her brows knitted as she questioned herself if she heard him right.

"I'm sorry, what?" After Ethan's constant attempt to annoy her earlier, she finally responded with eyes filled with uncertainties.

He never saw this before, or rather, he never noticed that Lexi always wanted confirmation. She would always pardon herself when caught off guard and would scurry away for some unknown reason.

Smiling gently, Ethan patiently repeated his words, "Will you dance with me, Miss Yang?"

Lexi rigidly blinked her eyes as her gaze met his pair of bewitching yet gentle eyes. To her, it's as if she was having a tough time digesting Ethan's invitation.

'Dance? With him?'

She lightly scoffed as her thought process finally functioned. "Director Lu, I know you fancy playing around but, I don't think it's appropriate to target and add me; your friend's former fiance on your 'dated' list. If you can't respect your brotherhood with bro--, with CEO Liu, then, please refrain from doing unnecessary deed that could clearly cause discomfort to your fellow human being… have some basic human decency." Lexi uttered in one go. Her cold facade was unmoved as she spat her opinion towards Ethan's action. She doesn't care anymore about the system and its task.

If one thing that Lexi came to hate, it was not being taken seriously. Though she could not flaunt her damaged reputation, she still has too much pride in her that it was an insult that Ethan Lu sees her in a way he could fool around with.

Even before, she hated being treated that way. What's more? After everything that happened between her and Morris Liu, Lexi came to hate it more. Hence, she won't put up with more rubbish pretense with Ethan Lu anymore if it would only trample the dignity left on her.

Sensitive? Yes, Lexi was rather more sensitive especially now that everyday was still a struggle for her to wholeheartedly accept herself; and to apply the lesson she learned from the harsh lesson called reality.

After Lexi burst out, she heaved heavily before turning her back against the man and strode away from him.

Ethan stood rooted on the floor as he stared down at his shunned hands. For some reason, he didn't feel offended by Lexi's words but rather, he was astonished.

He knew that he was sometimes overbearing and would always cross the line before he knew it. However, since he always get away with it and no woman really spoke their displeasure towards his action, thus, it became a habit.

Hence, without taking any consideration with the issue Lexi was facing at the moment -- he just waltzed in with a selfish desire to fulfill his amusement but could cause trouble for her in return.

Realizing his fault, Ethan Lu balled his laid out hand into a fist as he grinds his teeth. Raising his gaze to where Lexi headed, he hastily rushed to catch up with her.

-----

"Chu… are you mad?" Churu who was surprisingly avoiding the 'system talks' worriedly inquired about Lexi. She frowned seeing that Lexi wasn't responding. However, she could feel the emotion Lexi she has now which is why Churu was rather careful with her words.

"Lexi, chu…" Churu who was being ignored flew and wrapped her short arms on Lexi's neck as if she was hugging it.

The action of the little dumpling ceased Lexi's steps. She rubbed Churu's cheeks by her index finger as if petting her. She reassured, "I'm not." Before she resumed on her tracks towards the parking space of the said luxury hotel.

"Miss Yang -- wait!" From the distance, Lexi heard Ethan's weary voice which slightly stunned her. Turning her head from behind her, Ethan jogged his way to catch up on her. When he reached her standpoint, Lexi's brows creased in confusion. She didn't expect that Ethan Lu would persist despite the harsh words she spouted earlier.

Granting that she was displeased on Ethan's behavior, Lexi also discerned her wrongs by speaking such harsh words without thinking about the consequences. After all, Ethan Lu was still the heir of the Lu family which had a higher family standing than the Yang family.

"Director Lu, why --" Just as Lexi could even construct her question, Ethan Lu raised his hands and placed both his palm together in a prayer position.

"Sorry." Ethan's first word came as a sincere apology that was akin to a child asking for forgiveness. Though his way of apologizing was quite odd in his age, for a fleeting moment, Lexi saw his integrity with his somewhat charming countenance with his eyes shut closed.

"Pfft--" After some time, Lexi bit her lower lip to restrain herself from laughing out loud. For some odd reason, she wanted to ask if Churu's spirit manifested the man with his childish action.
