The Kidnapped Bride

Chapter 48 - Escape?!

Things weren't easy as she earlier thought and he was entirely right. With the passage of time, she can feel that he has too many dark secrets, and revealing them at once isn't that easy.

"Alright.." she stood on the ground after removing the dirt on her legs and hips, "shall we go? I don't want to stay on this island anymore when it is not safe."

Javier lifted his eyes to look at Jennifer, who was timid just a few seconds ago but now she looked fully energetic. From where did she get so much energy and power? Especially courage to even step out of their room?

His eyes narrowed but he let the hint pass at the back of his mind, "Hmm. But first, we need to be ready for everything." Javier walked towards the closet and took out three guns from the shelf. He passed the one to Jennifer, but his eyes were fixed on her eyes.

"Keep them safe. During safety, this might help you to safeguard yourself."

"Hmm. I will." Just like a professional, she kept the gun at her back but Javier was entirely amazed to see her handling the gun that he passed.

'How come she is able to hold it like.. those professionals and know where to keep it either?' But still, he had no heart to ask those questions which arose in his mind because he wasn't entitled to. Not yet, when they are already under attack.

"Where will the door lead us to?" Jennifer asked most innocently. "End of the island, near the sea."

A frown settled on her forehead after hearing what he just said. End of the island? Was there even an end of this vast island which is in a circle, at least this is what Ellen told her when they went on the trail!

When he received neither a shake nor a nod he knew that she wasn't able to comprehend it. "Any questions?"

"End of the island? Won't that be the beach and then water? Where can we run away from the water! There is literally nothing around the island except deep water!" She exclaimed but the light smirk plastered on his face after hearing her so deep question.

'She does have a mind. Obviously, she wasn't the class topper just like that..' Javier put the gun in his pocket and loaded his gun for once.

"Will tell you what we have to do when we reach the end of the sea. First, we have to not only walk through trials but I'm pretty much sure that those people have their man back in the forest also. There will be a fire there as well."

"Foremost rule is never look back. Keep on running and find the route to the beach. No stop in the middle or not turning behind to take a look. Even if you are out of breath, no stop and no turning around, understand?" He repeated the words to make her understand how dangerous the entire situation was.

If they mess up more, and any of them get hurt it will be too difficult to pass the rest of the journey. Jennifer vigorously nodded her head, indicating that she understood everything he told her.

"Alright." He turned around and took the shelves out, step by step. Jennifer kept her lingering gaze at what he was doing to open the door. Her heart was curious to know where exactly the secret door was.

At last, Javier moved all the shelves from the closet without anything inside it. Afterward, Javier stepped back and made her take a few backs as well. They kept themself at a distance and brought his mobile phone from his pocket.

'Mobile phone?' She was clueless but somehow he opened the door by pressing a smart button on his phone where the wooden back of the closet disclosed sideways.

In her pitch, a dark room came alight from the forest. Her eyes fell on the deep forest and somehow, she knew that this would be an adventure which she was missing for a few months.

"Ready?" He offered his hand to her and she readily nodded her head and gave him her hand when they both stepped out and started running. Their speed isn't fast, but neither slow. The speed was steady, as Javier knew that if they ran a lot from the start, till the end, exhaustion would consume them.

But luck wasn't on their side either. Just as predicted by Javier, gunshots started getting more intense behind their back.

"JAVIER! RUN FAST!" They went entirely through the different route, not exactly through the trail to reach the beach as fast. The gunshots were getting more intense behind her and she was afraid, if she stopped her legs for a mere few microseconds, she would be dead for sure!

The trees in the middle surely disturbed them a lot, when Jennifer was almost going to have a fall. The mud and sand beneath them were wet due to the rain last night, which added more to their disadvantage.

Fortunately, she was saved by Javier's grip on her hand which didn't made her balance be disturbed.

As told by Javier, she didn't look behind, although her heart was in continuous panicking if the killers reached them or not.

At last, they finally stepped out of the deep and thick forest, to run on the beach's sand. The sun rays were falling on them, where they both were almost out of breath.

Coming near water, Jennifer and Javier stopped to look behind him in the forest via which they just came out. "We can't stay in the open for long. Firing a bullet in the open is much easier than in the forest."

"Then...what to do now?" Jennifer asked in her hoarse voice when she kept her hand near her stomach to restore some of the energy.

Javier's lips turned into a straight line when he faced Jennifer with utmost dedication and seriousness. There was no anger but all Jennifer saw was a man who has a plan which can't be tamper at all.

"Jennifer... Do you know how to swim?"
