745 Struggle of the Participants(1)

Chapter 745: Struggle of the Participants(1)

The baby endlessly cried, unaware of what her future had in hold for her after her mother’s actions.

The cruelty on the woman’s face disappeared as she looked at the crying newborn. A gentle expression appeared as she picked up the baby from the now-dead midwife’s hands.

The next moment, the gentle expression turned into determination as there was no going back from this moment.

For the sake of her daughter’s future, she had given up on stable life. After the head learned about her killing the midwife and giving birth to a girl, she would have a bounty on her head.

If the village head liked anything more than underaged girls: it was the power. But here, the mother was not only taking away her daughter from the head but also kicking his authority by killing the midwife.

The mother then snapped the knife out from the midwife’s wound since it was a hunting knife. Every living being in the village carried a hunting knife on them all the time since the village and the areas around it weren’t peaceful.

Almost every month, a beast tide would attack the village. If not for the protection of the village head, the area would have turned void of any people long ago. But the help of the so-called village head didn’t come as early as the people wanted, but when the people’s morale was at its lowest, only then did the head take action.

Due to this tendency of the village head, every two or three attacks, one person died on average, and at least every tide would result in severe injury for the village people.

This knife came to help the mother as it was within her reach. If she didn’t have the knife with her, she wouldn’t have been able to kill the midwife, and the midwife would have told the village head about her daughter’s birth, endangering the girl’s future.

The woman then placed the knife on her waist and stood up from the bed. She then took a glance around the room, only to find nothing of value that could help her in her journey.

“I will give you a safe life,” The mother then determinedly stated as she gently rubbed her daughter’s face.

The newborn had also stopped crying since it didn’t have enough energy to carry on. The girl’s cheeks had turned red due to the blood on her mother’s hands.

The mother knew the baby was hungry, but there was no time. There were only two midwives in the village, and if one of them disappeared for long, it would surely alert the village’s clinic.

She then slowly opened the door and took a peek at outside. Her heart couldn’t help but skip a beat as her eyes caught the sight of the village head coming this way.

The village head was a man in his twenties. Pale skin, blue eyes, and golden hair spread across his face gave the man an above-average appearance.

Her heart got stuck in her throat, and only when the village head passed her house did she heave a sigh of relief.

While passing the house, the village head had noticed the mother peeking out. But since it was common in the village and he was aware of the terror toward him that the village people have, a smile appeared on his face. It was the feeling the village head loved the most.

Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, thirteen months had passed.

“Now, where will you run?” A man with an above-average appearance cruelly asked the woman lying on the ground with a serious injury.

The woman in question was the mother that year, while the man was the village head.

That year, the mother had succeeded in escaping the village before anyone found out about the death of the midwife or her giving birth to a daughter.

The journey was full of danger for the woman. If not for her having a breakthrough and successfully becoming a Level 1 lifeform, she wouldn’t have saved her daughter and come out of the jungle without any severe injury.

The woman named her daughter Maria since it was the first name that had popped into her head after she had taken a look at her newborn daughter.

Time had gone peacefully for the mother and daughter, but everything changed a week ago. Someone from her former village spotted her in a market, which was a few hundred miles away from her past village, and informed the head of that village.

The village head had been searching for the mother since he found out about the midwife’s death. The death of the midwife didn’t affect him at all, but the audacity of the woman daring to kill someone while he was the leader hurt the head’s ego. But when the village head found out about the girl with the woman, he understood the reason behind the woman’s action. At that time, he was so angry that he had started laughing.

To vent his anger, he violated the man’s wife in front of him and then killed both the man and his wife.

Even in his dreams, the man had never imagined the tragedy that would follow him and his family for bringing the piece of information to the village head.

Fast forward a week, and the village head finally found the woman and his daughter.

The head’s anger grew when he saw the girl. The girl didn’t look good and had a few scars on her face.

The head couldn’t control himself as he appeared in front of the woman.

The woman, who was an early Level 1, gave some fight to the village head, but the head proved to be the better opponent of the two since he had been an early Level 1 for six years. Even though he appeared at the crucial time of the beast tide every month, he still had to face any injury.

Every beast tide, he came out unscathed. The battle went on for a few minutes, but the village head finally proved himself stronger. The woman was lying on the ground with her clothes torn everywhere and blood continuously leaking out of numerous injuries spread across her body.
