The Ancient Genes

Chapter 579 - A Silent War

"You better stay with me, don't even think of leaving my sight for a second." Roman warned Ander. He was practically taking an enemy, his wife's ex-pursuer, into his house. There was no way he would leave him alone.

"You don't need to remind me, I know how I need to behave. I am not some uncivilized b*stard," Ander replied with a snort.

Max was now really curious. He wanted to know just what Melinda had used to force Roman to be so submissive. The guy had really been holding himself back which wasn't like him at all.

The trio got into a car, which was provided by the hotel. And, it soon left the place. .

Roman and Ander were like two kids. They kept bickering all the way through, but fortunately, it didn't erupt into something serious.

"How much long is it gonna take? It would have been better if we just went on foot." Roman frowned as he looked at the time.  He was afraid of arriving too late.

"Never thought you would be in such a hurry to treat me to dinner someda-" Ander hadn't even completed his sentence when both he and Roman moved.

Their hands directly went for Max. Even though Max was slower, he was already on the move as well.

Ander grabbed Max while Roman caught hold of the driver. The two immediately kicked the doors out and flew out of the car. And, as soon as they did that, a truck rammed into the car sending it flipping through air.

"Bang!"

The car crashed into a divider and broke part, turning into a piece of junk. Nobody could even recognize that it was a car anymore.

The accident obviously caused a commotion, scaring the people nearby. But luckily, there was only one person, who suffered injuries.

It was the truck driver himself.

The guy was badly injured and rushed up to hospital. Fortunately, it seemed he would make it out alive.

"Well, that would have hurt for sure," Ander said looking at scrap metal which was left of their car.

"Why does it feel like it was planned? Only a blind person could have caused an accident like that," Roman said with a frown.

The truck was literally gunning for them. The driver didn't even try to push the brakes and rammed straight into them headfirst.

"Planned? Do Mages even die in car crashes?" Ander asked with a smile. If they really had ended up in the crash, then they might have suffered a few cuts at most.

Still, there was the driver who would have probably died. Not to mention, no one would like to suffer injuries if they could just avoid it.

So, it made such a plan pointless. Why would someone plan an attack like that?

Max had a frown on his face as he looked at the thrashed car. For some reason, he felt that Roman was right.

After all, Max knew that there were people who had been tracking him down. And, now he had an accident. There was no way that he wouldn't relate the two. Especially when he had clearly sensed one of the goons lurking around when he had exited the Hotel.

'What were they trying to get with it? Or was it just a normal accident?' Max was a bit confused. But his gut feeling said that there was definitely something else in here.

In the end, the trio gave up on the car and reached the Roxley House on their two feet. It was way faster like this.

"Remember to act properly." Roman reminded Ander as the group went inside.

A smile slowly leaked on Max's face as a clone separated from his body without anyone's notice.

"Max is here!" Janet said in a cheerful voice which attracted everyone's attention. And, they turned their heads to see Max being led inside by Roman along with another unfamiliar person.

Melinda, who had been busy enjoying her time with Lesia suddenly turned her head.

She was obviously delighted to see Max. But when her eyes fell on Ander, they paused for a few seconds.

Ander obviously sensed the gaze and looked at her as well.

Melinda's eyes sharpened for a moment, but they instantly turned normal. And, she immediately got up to welcome Max.

Lesai on the other hand looked at Ander. She felt the guy to be familiar, but couldn't remember where she had seen him.

'Is he smiling at me?' Lesia forced a smile in her face as well when she saw Ander smiling at her.

But when the guy suddenly winked at her, it immediately made her frown. In the end, she just took her eyes off of him.

'Hahaha!!! This might not be that bad,' Ander laughed inwardly seeing his wife's reaction.

Melinda and Max exchanged pleasantries. They were full of smiles and had already become a bit familiar over the phone call. So, his in persin meeting with her went smoothly

"Who is this gentleman, Darling?" Melinda asked with a smile as she looked at Ander.

"This is one of my old friends, Mr. Cuck Old, I met him in the hotel as well. It's been a long time, so I thought I will catch up with him for a bit," Roman said with a laugh as he gave a hard slap to Ander's back and then put his hand over his shoulder.

Max almost burst out laughing when he heard Roman speak. Even Melinda's face twitched for a second.

Ander was the one having it worse though. But, he still out a smile on his face, and shook hands with Melinda.

"It's a pleasure to meet you. I am your Husband's best friend in the school. He always use to scream that I love getting Cuck Old at my home."

"Cough!" Lora chocked on the water she was drinking.

And, everyone's face darkened. Especially, Romans. Well, he couldn't blame anyone. It was him, who started it.

Max shook his head looking at the two.

It was very clear that the two were holding back their anger. After all, the two couldn't even stand each other's breath and now they were hugging each other like best buddies.

"You guys enjoy, I will take him to catch up from where we left off last time," Roman said with a smile, but Max felt he was definitely snorting and planning to kill him inside.

"Yeah, sure. I have a lot to say as well," Ander replied as he tightened his grip on Roman's arm. He wasn't backing down today.

The two then immediately left the place and were soon out of Max's senses. Only God knew where they had gone. He just hoped that they wouldn't over do it.

"Come with me," Melinda grabbed Leo by his shoulder and brought him towards the seats where everyone else was.

"Why were you so late?" Lora asked him.

"I was caught up in something. And, I wasn't able to get out early. I am sorry." Max replied with an apologetic smile.

Melinda smiled seeing that Max had covered up for her husband and it further improved his image in her eyes.

"Are you fine?" Elly suddenly asked, whispering to Max.

"Yeah, why do you ask?" Max replied, looking at her.

"I can feel the adrenaline rush in your body. Did something happen?" She further asked.

This obviously surprised Max. It seemed Elly's ability were really expanding beyond limit.
