Surviving the Apocalypse While Being Tempted by an Elf and a Dark Elf

Chapter 39: Another group (6)

Chapter 39: Another group (6)

While Luke was thinking of a proper plan, he moved away from the park even further, he would keep hunting the wolves, but he couldn’t let the others smell their dead friends.

“Why don’t they send the strongest of their tribe instead of just sending those weak ones?” Luke asked. “The owner of the crystal should be leagues above the others, right?”

“They only send the youngest ones because they need to prove their valor,” Shalia explained. “Even if they lose all of the wolves they send, if just one of them becomes powerful enough to take this whole city, the monster will have reached the level of the owner of the crystal.”

If that was true, it was rather wild for a tribe of monsters to act… or perhaps it was only natural since they were essentially beasts. They would follow the path of survival of the fittest to the very end… Regardless, since Luke was dealing with starving wolves that were heading to the West, the zombies were finally starting to appear there as well, so he began to fight them while hoping that some good items would appear, but his luck wasn’t that great.

“Well, before anything, I should make Appraisal reach level two as well…” Luke said while looking around and finding nothing but ordinary buildings.

As expected, it would be hard to find a gun shop in an area like that… while it couldn’t be compared to downtown, it still had some large stores and buildings. Luke imagined that firearms could help him alongside Weapon Augmentation. Still, he had yet to test his handgun and machine gun on monsters. The reason was the fact that they would make too much noise, even with the silencers.

After clearing the area, Luke decided to check a nearby supermarket for items. The glass door had been completely shattered, but he could tell that no zombie was there… Unfortunately, there was much blood inside, so Luke wasn’t there to look for food. Instead of that, he looked for knives and brooms. Knives alone probably wouldn’t be so effective against so many starving wolves, but what if he combined them with the brooms to make some improvised spears. He only would need some adhesive tape.

“Let’s make three of those and see what they could do at each level…” Luke said after he gathered the materials and left the store.

Although Luke tried to be fast, he hadn’t been that fast, so another wolf had appeared, and much to his annoyance, the creature wasn’t alone… two others were with them.

“Oh, man…” Luke said and then grabbed his sword.

“You are pretty unlucky, Luke,” Shalia smiled and then created an ice spear above Luke.

Luke didn’t expect Shalia to create a bigger spear than him so fast, but she probably used all of her mana to do that. Nevertheless, Luke pointed his left hand to one of the monsters, and the creatures finally noticed him and dashed toward him. Before anything, Luke fired six Spark Balls toward the heads of the enemies. He did it so fast that he even surprised himself when he didn’t miss a single time and paralyzed the monsters for a full second. Using that chance, Shalia fired her projectile and made it pierce the skull of the wolf on the left side.

Due to the surprise, Luke used Stinger and attacked the monster in the middle with his eyes wide open. This time, Rina was the one who helped him. She had buffed his strength in the middle of the activation of the skill, making his sword pierce deeply in the skull of the monster and also killing it instantly. However, while Luke was pulling back his sword, the remaining wolf hit him with its claw. The chainmail protected Luke’s torso, but it didn’t protect his left arm. Luke bit his lips when he felt the burning pain of the claw of the monster piercing deeply on his skin.

The creature tried again with the other paw, but Luke used Spark Ball on the monster’s head. Each Spark Ball could paralyze the monster for half a second, but Luke used it several times in a row until the monster’s head began to emit smoke, and the beast fell dead. Luke also ran out of mana…

“Thanks, guys,” Luke said and then checked his bleeding wound. “I guess our teamwork isn’t that bad.”

“… The wound isn’t deep and by some miracle, your muscles and bones weren’t hit,” Rina said. “With your current attributes, you will stop bleeding soon, but even though your health will be full again in a couple of minutes, the wound will take a while to close completely.”

Luke sighed… he messed up by letting the blood rush to his head… Nevertheless, there was a pharmacy nearby, so he was bound to find some bandages there. Still, before going there, Luke crafted the spears that he wanted. As if they had been lured by the smell of fresh blood, Luke saw a large group of zombies moving toward him. The wound on his left arm was bothering him quite a bit, and the last thing that he needed right now was worry about it being infected by them… Fortunately, Luke had finished the first spear before they could reach him. So, he used Weapon Augmentation level one alongside it.

In the next moment, the weapon flew toward the enemies and impaled the heads of four enemies before it completely broke. It wasn’t half bad… so Luke was really looking forward to watching the level two and level three could do.
