Speed Is King

Author’s Note: Some of you who read yesterday’s chapter early might notice that today’s chapter is the same. This is because I accidentally skipped a chapter yesterday! Many apologies. 🙂 I’ve fixed the mistake, so chapter 18 shd be new for you.

[Rex has gained 2 levels for killing a level 15 wolf.]

[Ellie has gained 2 levels for killing a level 15 wolf.]

Level 7!

They continued on their rampage. Another wolf fell to their deadly combo.

[Rex has gained 1 level for killing a level 15 wolf.]

[Ellie has gained 1 level for killing a level 15 wolf.]

[Congratulations, You have levelled up to level 17!]

And another.

And another.

[Rex has gained 1 level for killing a level 15 wolf.]

[Ellie has gained 1 level for killing a level 15 wolf.]

By the time they got to level 9, only 6 enemy wolves remained and only 1 on their side was still fight-capable.

However, Rex and Ellie had almost doubled in size, and their deadliness had increased by many, many times over. They were already so powerful that they could take on the remaining 6 enemy wolves by themselves if they wished to.

The enemy wolves were smart, and understood that the fight was over. They quickly retreated back into the forest and into safety. Or so they thought.

Unfortunately for them, the forest no longer belonged to their pack.

GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

A loud and victorious roar thundered out from somewhere ahead.

It was a bear’s roar.

Brock had won!

“It’s gramps! Did he win?” Jessica cried out anxiously.

“Yes, did he win? Did he say anything??” Jennifer asked equally anxiously.

“He won! Let’s go and find him!” Elliot said excitedly. He quickly dismissed his remaining wolf and got the two girls and his two not-so little tamed beasts to follow him as he made his way to Brock.

“Little Master. Here, the wolf is all yours.” Brock said with great pride. He had his right paw pressed against the wolf’s neck to prevent it from moving.

Brock had sustained several light injuries and a rather serious one on his left paw. But overall, he seemed fine.

The same couldn’t be said of the giant Snow Wolf, though. Its thick, beautiful white fur was almost fully covered in blood from the many wounds on its body and both its front legs were bent into an unnatural angle.

And all around it were dead and dying wolves, at least thirty of them.

The Snow Wolf and its pack had truly put up a fierce fight.

Jessica and Jennifer gasped when they saw the horrible sight.

“Stay here and don’t move.” Elliot told his sisters who instantly nodded obediently.

Elliot quickly nicked his palm and pressed it against one of the Snow Wolf’s many wounds.

The now-familiar mind space descended upon him and revealed the Snow Wolf’s stats.

AI Comments: A descendant of the Wolf God’s Shadow, the Wolf God’s most powerful warrior. Generations of living in the snow had caused its fur to turn white and the power of the Wolf God’s Shadow to disappear. A powerful beast near the top of the food chain on planet Earth.

“Human Beast Master.” A soft and gentle voice rang out in Elliot’s mind.

“Hello Winter.” Elliot greeted her.

“To think that I would live to see one of your kind. Are you here to tame me?” Winter asked in her velvety smooth and gentle voice.

“Yes.” Elliot simply said. “The apocalypse is almost upon us. I am gathering my forces so that we can survive.”

“Apocalypse huh. So that’s why I have been on edge for the past few weeks.” Winter sighed.

“Will you sign a contract with me?” Elliot asked her.

“No, Human Beast Master. I would rather die than live under another’s rule once more.” Winter said as her body wheezed in pain.

“What? Why?” Elliot asked in amazement.

“Show me mercy and kill me now. Do not leave me to die helplessly this way.” Winter ignored Elliot’s question and beseeched him to kill her instead.

“Serve me for one year. After one year, if you want to leave, I will release you.” Elliot refused to give up and made her an offer. “Just consider this one year your attempt to survive the initial chaos of the apocalypse. I am planning to tame all of the giant beasts in the area. Together, we’re much stronger.”

“All of the giant beasts in this area, you say?” Winter’s interest was slightly piqued at that.

“Yes. Is there a beast in particular which you would like to see tamed under me as well?” Elliot asked. “Of course, because it would be tamed after you, it will have to call you senior and obey your instructions’¦” Elliot dangled a delicious carrot in front of her.

“Interesting. Interesting.” Winter said softly as she pondered on Elliot’s proposal. “One year, and control over all of the beasts that come after me?”

“Yes.”

Winter remained silent for a few moments. In the end, however…

“Fine. I agree.”

[Royal Frost Wolf successfully tamed.]

[4500 XP gained.]

[Congratulations, You have levelled up to level 18!]

[Congratulations, You have levelled up to level 19!]

[Congratulations, You have levelled up to level 20!]

“He’s level 20 now.” Monkey King said softly to Void Walker. “The fun has begun.”

“What do you mean? Why? Void Walker asked.

“He will unlock a very important and powerful feature of the Beast System at level 20. If he could successfully increase its level, it is one that would truly secure his position in the end game.” Monkey King explained mysteriously.

“What is it? Quit being so mysterious like a perverted old man!” Void Walker said impatiently.

“At level 20, the Beast System would unlock’¦ Beast Transformation.” Monkey King said with a gleam of excitement in his eyes.
