Solo Cultivation in The Apocalypse

Chapter 37 A Deadly Undead.

The sun was slowly rising in the sky, sprinkles of sunlight fell on the trees, and the leaves were rustling wildly because of the wild wind.

Hitori noticed something moving in the deep woods. It was still dawn so the light darkness made it hard for Hitori to get a clear look. There was movement in between the woods.

When Hitori took a step forward, the movement disappeared, as if suddenly vanished in the thin air. Hitori was sure who was in the woods.

[Reached the Wendigo’s Area. Defeat Wendigo Lv. 26]

Hitori gulped as he continued to stare at the woods. His eyes did not move from the target, he could not see the Wendigo but he knew what it looked like.

Hitori equipped his katana and pointed it in front of him, ready for anything. There was still a slight fear of fighting a Wendigo for the first time.

He spotted the movement once again, and that is when he remembered what Kamiya had said to him on his first meeting with the Wendigo.

‘It will dodge your attack,’ it will not block it, ‘and much worse if your reflexes are not quick as its…’

Hitori lifted his eyes wide open, increased the volume, and tried to focus on the Wendigo’s movements. Hitori moved his eyes all around the forest in circles.

He started moving his eyes to his right and stopped there. After a second, he moved his eyes further behind him, “move!” Hitori jumped at Reon.

Reon, as confused as always by Hitori’s action, froze and could not move. She looked at Hitori as his shadow covered her body and his katana coming upwards. She raised her arms to cover her face.

Clang!

The ice covering Hitori’s katana fell all over the place, some hit Reon on her head. She slowly lifted her eyes and looked above her.

A tall creature with antennas like a dear was standing above her. She almost faded when her eyes met with the creature’s ribs and internal organs. Reon lost her balance and fell to the ground.

Hitori grunted, he applied even more strength and used a spell to move his ice from his katana’s blade to the wendigo’s long, pointed nails.

When the ice started climbing up the Wendigo’s nails which looked like it would tear anything into pieces, the wendigo pushed against Hitori’s katana to disappear in the woods again.

Hitori went backward a little but managed his balance. He took a few steps back and looked at Reon who was sitting on the ground.

“Just what on earth is a Wendigo?” she got up and equipped herself with the gun.

Hitori looked back at the woods with no sign of wendigo. He then opened his inventory, pulled out a hundred agility gems, and ate them in one go. He further drank the stamina potion he obtained in the mansion of the ghost.

Hitori was not backed up with agility boosting potions so he had to use all of the agility gems he had with him, five agility gems would increase the agility by one point.

[One hundred and ten agility gems consumed]

[Agility increased to 48 from 26]

“A deadly undead,” Hitori started breathing heavily, “and it will definitely eat you… alive,” he turned his eyes at Reon. Her eyes went wide as she took a step back.

Her eyes did not move off Hitori. He turned around and took a step forward. Soon, he too disappeared from Rion’s sight. Reon’s reflexes were too slow to watch Hitori and Wendigo’s movement.

She raised her gun, ready to fire. But unfortunately, she was not able to see Hitori or Wendigo. All she saw were constant clashes of Hitori’s katana and the Wendigo’s claws before they would disappear once again.

As Hitori clashed with the Wendigo with his ice katana, the sparks of ice and a few blocks of frozen eyes fell on the ground. It was fairly beautiful, the ice falling everywhere under the rising sun.

Suddenly, in the middle of the area, they were fighting on, a slash of blazing fire erupted in the air. The fire slash had cut Wendigo’s nails and threw him on the ground.

The wendigo lifted its head before it got up and disappeared into the woods once again. Hitori stopped moving, he appeared on the other side.

He started moving, he glanced at Reon and quickly retreated to her.

Reon was surprised to see that Hitori had managed to land a cut on the Wendigo. She had taken a look at Wendigo’s health bar, its health had gone down by thirteen points.

“What are the chemicals you have with you?” Hitori asked her while trying to gain control over his breathing.

Reon glanced at her with a slightly open mouth, “Per…” she stopped.

With her mouth open, she saw Hitori had damaged the Wendigo by his fire element and not the ice, which made a realization hit her hard.

“Hydrogen peroxide,” Hitori turned his eyes to her, “and it looks like Wendigo is vulnerable to fire…”

Hitori turned his eyes back to the surrounding, ready for a surprise attack, “you know what do to then,”

She closed her awestruck mouth, a smile had unfolded on her face, “I know what to do,” she nodded with a grin.

With her ending her sentence, Hitori disappeared into the thin air when he sensed the Wendigo’s movement.

Hitori’s katana clashed with the Wendigo once again. This time, flames of fire erupted whenever his katana clashed with Wendigo.

Meanwhile, Reon had pulled on her experiment gloves, equipped the lab glasses she had acquired, finally, she pulled out a flash containing hydrogen peroxide.

“Exactly…” she squatted down, “if we had acquired chemicals from the previous quest, obviously we acquired it to reduce the next quest’s difficulty level,” she figured out and declared her conclusion as to why Hitori had reminded her of the chemicals.

She started arranging things for executing the reaction, “reaction with peroxide is exothermic,” she started muttering to herself, “it will give out heat along with oxygen and water vapors,”

She then got up from the ground and reached out to the dried leaves, dried branches of trees, and other flammable waste material.

“All I need to do is produce more heat from somewhere,” she opened the flask, took a step back, and poured it on the pile of waste she had collected.

“Ryu-san!” she shouted even when she was not able to see him, “bring the monster over here!” she glanced down at the pile of grass. Nothing had happened, “and lit the grass on fire!” she added.

Hitori appeared, he turned around and ran towards the pile of grass, “fire blast!” a ball of fire fell on the pile of dried grass.

The flame that was dancing on the ground started fading. Hitori stopped beside Reon, the Wendigo had not appeared yet, it was not moving either.

“…” Hitori kept staring as his fire soon turned to a tiny flame. He lifted his hands to burn it again when Reon stretched her arm. “No, do not… or else… you will die along with me,” she glared at Hitori. Hitori decided to step back.

The wendigo appeared. It was waiting for the flame to disappear before he could step out. It started to run towards Hitori and Reon.

They both did not move, Reon did not let Hitori do anything. They watched as the Wendigo came closer to the pile of half-burned grass.

“Peroxide reacts with the oxygen present in the air…” Reon started to explain, “the oxygen gas fuels the heat produced in the reaction and… if enough heat is produced along with oxygen, boom.”

As soon as Wendigo jumped over the pile of waste, fire erupted and engulfed even the trees behind and above it.

Under the big explosion of fire, the wendigo’s figure started collapsing down in the center of the explosion.
