Solo Cultivation in The Apocalypse

Chapter 20 The Trump Card

Kamiya shot out a blue flare from his wand. Hitori got the signal to continue the battle between them and the bird.

Hitori walked closer to the bird till it was in his sight. He remembered from the last time that if he got within the five-meter radius of the bird, the phoenix would wake up.

So Ryan stood more than five meters away from the bird, he pulled out his purple gun and aimed it at the bird.

Kamiya was once again not able to see the bird clearly. The bird had gone back into its nest which was on the other side and out of Kamiya’s range.

“All out huh,” Kamiya clenched his wand, “I hope my mana lasts that long,” he lifted his wand and pointed it at the sky, ready for the phoenix to rise.

Hitori gulped, he stared at the phoenix from behind a rock. His finger reached his gun’s trigger, he had his other hand ready to cast a water spell.

“Mizu no Mahou: Water…” he pulled the trigger at the same time a spray of water erupted from his hand, “Beam!”

Squeak, squeak!

The bird woke up in an instant because of the pain.

The damage inflicted was eventually reduced because the bird opened its wings and soared in the sky.

Hitori kept using his water beam, a straight line of water that swirled around in circles as if drilling into the target’s body to increase the impact on the target.

The bird soared into the sky, it was definitely aggressive, anyone could see it.

Hitori pulled his gun down and aimed at the bird with both of his hands.

Kamiya noticed that Hitori had planned an attack on the Phoenix.

The bird was pretty high in the sky, still below Kamiya’s level but was high enough for Kamiya to attack it.

“Bubble beam!” bubbles came out of Hitori’s hands. They quickly charged at the phoenix who was turning fierce pretty quick.

Kamiya’s wand went above his head, he aimed at his target that was throwing Hitori’s bubbles all over the place.

The walls and stones flew up in the air, some destroyed into pieces when Hitori’s deflected bubbles touched the ground.

“Rock Slide!” he chanted his spell, thick rocks flew out of his wand and fell on the phoenix, who was flying a few meters below Kamiya.

Squawk!

As soon as the first rock landed on the phoenix’s neck, it let out an angry squawk.

A few more rocks followed from behind, it let another rock hit his chest but it blew the rest of the rocks away by a strong gust of wind.

“It is hard for me, even when I am five levels higher than the boss… together with Hitori, it should be even easier,” Kamiya thought while trying more of his rock spells.

The bird let out an angry and painful chirp.

Hitori and Kamiya’s attacks together had finally started to push the bird away.

Kamiya noticed the health of the phoenix had moved to the yellow side of the health bar.

“Yes, it looks like Hitori used the secret weapon he found on the ninth floor!” Kamiya increased the span of his spells.

p A light flashed from his wand. The head was a thick rock and the tail was its afterimage.

Chirp?

The phoenix’s claws clashed with the meteor that had merged from Kamiya’s wand. After a few sparks, the phoenix won in the end.

Its claws were stronger than the rock meteor spell.

Kamiya lifted his wand up again to let out another attack that would push the phoenix further down to the ground.

But when he saw the bird flying higher than him and away from him, he sensed a feeling of victory.

“It is working, we managed to push the bird away!” he shot out another flare in the sky, this time, it was a green color flare.

Hitori turned his head to Kamiya with a smile that had unfolded slowly.

Flap, flap.

With the sound of wings flapping against the air, a few feathers fell to the ground, Hitori turned his head to see what the Phoenix was up to now.

Just damaging the boss is not enough, just pushing the boss away from you is not enough either. You ought to kill the boss before you claim the victory as yours.

“I can levitate you if you want!” Surprisingly, Kamiya’s voice reached Hitori, as if he was speaking via a mic.

Hitori shot a bullet in the sky as a signal to do it. Kamiya pulled his wand away from his lips and pointed it at Hitori.

The bird that had gone higher than Kamiya had suddenly stopped in the middle of the sky.

It had gone above the moon, it opened its wings in the air before it started to fall.

Hitori’s eyes went wide, he knew what was coming his way.

The bird’s free fall started, it wrapped its wings around its body. The flames that were burning on its body engulfed the phoenix.

Kamiya had already started sliding down the wall on seeing that the phoenix’s health went down by half.

He had lifted Hitori a few inches off the ground and was still taking him up.

“Well done,” he shouted as he got closer to Hitori, “Now let us take this boss down!”

But, Hitori was wise enough to know what was going to happen, “No!” his protest confused Kamiya, his smile faded with time, “Run! Stay away!”

Hitori turned his body in the mid-air, he did not want to be the reason for someone else’s death in the game, “Kamiya, it is the boss’s trump card, you need to run.”

Hitori had to make the effort and shout at Kamiya.

He who was confused by Hitori’s sudden change of plans decided to listen to Hitori’s command to turn back.

“Trump card?” Kamiya had totally forgotten about the attack a boss always unleashes when it enters the rage mode, “…we need to protect ourselves from whatever it plans to do,” he glanced behind him and saw Hitori running behind him.

Perhaps Hitori’s agility stat was still not cultivated enough. Kamiya reached the wall way before Hitori.

“Come. Only a few meters,” his decision to not use levitating magic for just a few meters was logical.

The bird’s free fall had given Kamiya a rough guess of the boss’s next move.

He continued climbing the wall with levitation and looked down at Hitori to ask him if he could get on the wall.

“Huh?” a frown appeared on his face, Hitori did not move. He stood in front of the wall, instead, he created a water wall in front of him.

“…has he planned a counter?” Kamiya turned around and kept flying till he reached the top of the wall.

He first glanced down at Hitori, he brought his wand near his chest with his elbow pointing upwards, then he moved the wand forward.

“Defense wall!!”

Hitori pulled out his katana and gun, after all, he was assured of Kamiya’s protection.

Two big translucent walls stood in front of Hitori’s water wall.

Secondly, Kamiya looked up at the phoenix. Its whole body was engulfed in flames, it was like a shooting comet.

The bird spun around like a drilling machine. It was only a few meters away from crashing into the roof’s ground.

“I have realized my mistake…” Hitori pulled his arms in front of his face, still ready for anything.

Kamiya had himself covered in a thin blanket of air which would reduce the impact on the bird’s crash, if the shockwaves reach him, that is.

“…I ran.” Hitori completed his sentence.
