Secret Killer

Chapter 27 - Anna's Testimony

"I have a testimony to make," Anna declared.

Mr. L and the old detective looked at each other and nodded. The senior detective asked Anna to get in the room and speak what she had to testify.

"So, Anna, what do you want to say?" Mr. L asked.

Anna glanced at Leon and uttered, "I know who killed Ray."

Leon quietly averted his gaze and made sure not to make eye contact with Anna or the detectives.

'Why is she looking at me?' Leon wondered. 'Did she see me killing Ray?'

Leon noticed that Anna used the word 'Killed' when she mentioned Ray's death.

"Who killed him?" the old detective asked with a curious look on his face.

Anna simply glanced at Leon and didn't say anything.

Mr. L placed his hand on Anna's shoulder and said, "Don't worry. You can say whatever you know." He then looked at Leon and continued, "We will handle the rest."

Anna shrugged Mr. L's hand from her shoulder and said, "I don't like when people touch me, especially males."

"Oh!" Mr. L exclaimed. "Sorry about that. I was simply trying to reassure you."

"I don't need your reassurance." Anna glanced at Leon from the corner of her eyes and said, "I am not scared of anyone."

"Miss Anna, will you please get to the point?' the old detective uttered. "You are wasting our time."

Anna slowly opened her mouth and said, "The person who killed Ray is…"

'As I thought, she has seen me.' Leon was waiting for Anna to say the name of the killer. If it turned out she truly saw him, Leon was going to kill everyone present in the room using the detective's guns and make it look like they killed everyone. He was also planning to injure himself by shooting him on the leg and non-vital organs.

"It was the guard," Anna asserted.

"..." Leon was confused, but he was a little relieved that Anna was mistaken.

"Guard?" the old detective wondered. "The guard who was the first eye witness?"

Anna shook her head and said, "No, it was the guard who was found dead in the laboratory."

"..." Leon was even more confused. He was now sure that Anna was planning something.

"What do you mean?" the old detective asked. "If he killed Ray, then who killed the guard?"

Mr. L pondered in the meantime, and after a few seconds, he tapped on the old detective's shoulder and whispered something in his ears.

"I saw the guard killing Ray, but I was too scared to do anything, and I had no proof. So I went to the monitoring room to get the proof, but that guard was the one watching over all the cameras. When I checked the footage, everything was corrupted. I didn't know what to do."

Leon glanced at Anna with a puzzled look on his face and wondered, 'Why is she lying? Is she trying to save me? It's not like I had left any evidence.'

"Then, I saw him going to the chemistry lab. He was planning to destroy all the physical evidence with the acid, but he tripped when he was carrying it, and the acid fell over his body," Anna testified everything as though she had seen all that with her eyes.

She had indeed seen everything, but that was on the footage where she saw Leon killing both Ray and the guard.

Mr. L scoffed and glanced at the old detective.

"I told you," he said.

"So, everything is clear now. Can we go?" the fifth classmate asked.

"Yes, please." Mr. L pointed his hand to the door and uttered, "You all may leave."

Everyone turned to the door and started walking towards it.

"Except, Leon and Anna, everyone can go," Mr. L added.

Leon clenched his fist in annoyance, but he managed to calm himself down.

Leon and Anna walked back into the room and stood in front of the two detectives.

"Miss Anna, your testimony makes sense. But do you have any proof?" the old detective asked.

"I would have if I could. Everything else is destroyed, and I don't have any proof to prove anything," Anna shrugged her shoulders and added, "That's why people are afraid to testify and tell the truth. Because they know that they will get in trouble for telling the truth."

Mr. L raised his brows and asked, "You seem awfully calm even when your uncle was murdered just yesterday."

"We weren't that close that I would get sad over his death," Anna scoffed. "He was my best friend's brother. But my father married my best friend, who is 25 years younger than him, and Ray became my uncle— who was younger than me, by the way."

"Well, true," Mr. L nodded. "I am not good with family matters too."

The old detective placed his hand on Mr. L's shoulder and pointed his gaze at Leon.

"Right." Mr. L turned to Leon and said, "Leon, the thing is—"

RING RING

Mr. L's phone rang, but he ignored it.

"The things is that—"

RING RING

Mr. L's phone rang again, but he ignored it. He sighed and continued, "The thing is that yesterday, the—"

RING RING

Mr. L's phone rang, but he ignored it again.

"You should pick it up," the old detective commented.

"You know I don't answer any calls when I am talking with the suspects. It distracts me and ruins my concentration."

Mr. L switched off his phone and let out a weary sigh. He looked at Leon and said, "The thing is that yesterday, the guard said that he saw you near the pool. So technically, you are considered a suspect. But according to Miss Anna's testimony, she saw another guard killing Ray. She didn't mention you. So either the guard was lying, or Miss Anna's testimony is false."

"How about you choose the first one?" Leon commented.

"I would love to. Because the case would be solved in one day, and I will achieve my 200 cases solved title. However, I can't do anything until we ask the guard more about it."

'Good luck with that,' Leon thought as he smirked inwardly.
