Retired Villainess Transmigrates into a Cannon Fodder

Chapter 50

Xiao Han opened the file folder and handed it to her. “This is my newest draft for our plan to take the Ye Family’s brand name. It also has the bidding documents and some core content. Miss Chu, please take a look.”

Instead of taking it, she leaned on the chair’s armrest, drawing closer to him to read the documents. Xiao Han held the folder while she flipped the pages. Tension filled the room where only the sound of their breathing could be heard.

“It’s very good.” Chu Xiang nodded, then laughed. “I really like it.”

Xiao Han wasn’t sure when exactly he had rested his arm on the back of Chu Xiang’s chair, but his posture when he set the document down on the table with his other hand made it seem like he was caging her in her chair.

He lowered his head closer to hers by a fraction, her breath fanning across his face. When he spoke, his voice was low and soft. “I’m honored that Miss Chu likes it.”

They slowly drew closer and closer to each other, and right when the distance between them nearly narrowed into non-existence, Chu Xiang’s phone rang.

She startled, accepting the call. “Mom?”

Fang Qing laughed. “Xiang Xiang, where are you? Your dad’s plane lands in a little over an hour. How about we go meet him at the airport, then eat a nice big dinner together?”

“Dad’s coming back today?” Chu Xiang glanced at the expressionless Xiao Han, then laughed as well. “Okay, I’ll go to the company and pick you up, we can go to the airport together.”

“Okay, I’ll wait for you. Be careful on the road.”

“Got it, Mom.”

Chu Xiang smiled regretfully at Xiao Han. “Sorry, family time. I’ll try Mr. Xiao’s red wine sometime in the future, but I’ll be leaving now.”

Xiao Han fastened the buttons on his collar and stood. “I’ll see you off.”

Chu Xiang picked up her bag and walked to the door. She turned around and smiled at Xiao Han. “Mr. Xiao, I still don’t understand some parts of our plan so let’s meet another time and have a meal together.”

“Okay.” Xiao Han leaned against the doorframe with his arms crossed over his chest, watching Chu Xiang as she entered the elevator without looking back.

He went to the counter and poured himself some red wine. He swirled the glass and tasted it before returning to the study. He then notified his secretaries to convene in a video conference, much to the anguish of the project group members.

Chu Xiang drove over to pick her mother up. When she happened to pass by a shop, she intentionally entered and changed into neat and fresh clothing and put the red dress into her bag.

Meanwhile, Chu Xiang stopped by a shop so she could buy and change into more modest clothes. She folded her red dress and put it in her bag.

Fang Qing, on the other hand, had meticulously dressed up, and looked extremely elegant and graceful. Chu Xiang smiled when she saw her. “Mom, you look really beautiful today!” she praised.  “Everyone says nothing beats being newlywed. Mom, have you been missing Dad for a long time already?”

“We’re already an old married couple, I don’t miss him.” But even though that’s what Fang Qing said, once she entered the car, she opened her makeup mirror and fixed up her lipstick.

Chu Xiang laughed. “I predict that I’ll be the unwanted third guest. I should’ve searched for something to do on my own today.”

“Two people are called the world of husband and wife, three people are called a happy family.” After Fang Qing finished speaking, she noticed the red dress in Chu Xiang’s bag. “You went shopping?”

“No, I had a date so I dressed up a bit. However, once I received your call, I immediately came over.”

The casual way Chu Xiang answered made it sound like a joke, so Fang Qing didn’t take it seriously either, thinking that it was just a girls’ night out. After they picked up Chu Dongqi, the family went to the top floor of the tallest building in the city and enjoyed a candlelit dinner in an outdoor dining hall.

The warmth of the candlelight, the delicious food, the surrounding flower garden, and the violin all contributed to a beautiful evening. Through the railing, one could also see a panoramic view of the city.

Chu Xiang sighed. “This place is perfect for a date, it has such a romantic atmosphere.”
