Life didn't get easier, even in another world.

Chapter 47 - I Still Don't Know

"Done with the clothes."

Kairen stood back and proudly looked at his closet. He spent an hour tidying up and neatly placing his clothes in the closet.

Kairen knew well that this neat state of the closet won't even last two days. It will turn into a mess, a wild jungle, after a few days. He was too lazy to keep his room clean. But anyway, he just tried to live like a cultured human being for a day.

"NO! I DON'T WANT TO!"

He heard another one of Ariyan's loud yells.

Kain said that he had to talk to his son and then bravely stepped into his room. How long has it been?

'What kind of conversation are they having for the kid to shout like that every then minutes?'

Kairen felt guilty once more for coming there so late last night. He swallowed his bitter feelings and continued to work.

He took out his books from his backpack and walked towards the bookshelf that was on the wall, above the nightstand desk. He placed them all on the bookshelf.

"Hmm?"

Something caught his eyes at that moment, an old notebook with a torn and damaged cover. It was visibly not suitable to be there between the books.

He picked up the notebook and looked around.

"Where to put it... Ah!"

Kairen bent down and looked at the nightstand desk. It had a small drawer with a key to lock it. The key was left on the lock as if it didn't matter if people opened the drawer and saw it's inside.

Kairen unlocked the drawer and pulled it out.

"Hmm?"

There, he saw something inside the drawer. It was a notebook. Kairen took out the notebook and placed the one he was holding inside the drawer instead of it.

'Did it belong to the previous Kairen as well?'

He sat down on the bed and opened the notebook.

"...."

His eyes widened from surprise as he looked at the contents of the notebook.

"It is, another one of those notebooks?"

The second notebook in his hands was also written in his mother tongue.

He hurriedly took the old notebook out of the drawer and opened it as well. He compared the two handwritings, they were exactly the same.

The new notebook was different from the one he had found a few months ago. It was neat and clean with the words written in a clear way.

Kairen's heart was beating fast. He started to read the contents of the notebook carefully.

[Bread - Egg - Milk - Butter - Tomato - Medium-sized potato - Onion - Ice cream - Candy]

"....."

Kairen blinked his eyes and looked once again.

[Bread - Egg - Milk - Butter - Tomato - Medium-sized potato - Onion - Ice cream - Candy]

"....."

'A... A shopping list? Seriously?'

Kairen turned the page.

[The project for defense magic class - One week - Has to be done in teams]

[Final exams will start in a month]

[Should return the textbook to the library]

"....."

What are these?

Kairen turned the page once more.

[An attack-type magic spell uses up 5% of an average ranked mage's mana. If there is 2% of wasted energy every time the spell is cast, how many low-level mages are needed to destroy an average knight's aura shield? ]

And there were numbers and formulas written under the problem. The whole page was filled with numbers and strange formulas. At the end of the formula, there was a number written larger than the other with a big circle around it.

[The answer]

"..."

He just blankly stared at the notebook. He was so excited about finding another notebook... but... what the hell?

'Why did you even write such bullshit in this language?'

Kairen cursed the owner of the notebook and turned the page again.

On the next page, there was a drawing. A mixture of strange symbols and lines was drawn on the whole page.

The next pages were also filled with similar drawings.

"Ah, man!"

He massaged his forehead and continued to turn the pages. All the things written in it were bullshit. He kept on looking till he reached one strange page.

[I won't write them. I don't want to. I was stupid to think about them too much. Anyway, I've decided to ignore all those visions. They are all crap. Fake and bullshit. There is no way things like that can possibly happen. Yeah, that won't happen.]

The notes ended there. The rest of the notebook was blank.

"Visions?"

Kairen reread the note.

'Vision, is he talking about those future-related thingies?'

And he said he didn't want to write anymore. Did he mean that he didn't want to write down the memories of the future or anything he called them?

"Did he decide to quit being a prophet?"

Did he see something that he shouldn't have? Or something he didn't like?

'Ah, I don't even know if the things he had written on that old notebook are the truth or just some imaginary stories.'

Knock Knock

"Gasp."

Kairen got startled and flinched at the sudden knock on the door. He was too deep in thought that he didn't notice that Kain was standing in front of the door.

"Oh, I called you a few times but you didn't hear."

"S-sorry."

Kain looked at his hands and raised one of his eyebrows. He pointed at the old notebook on the bed and opened his mouth.

"Oh, it's that notebook."

"That notebook?"

Kain chuckle and stepped into the room.

"Right, you won't remember it now. You used to write things in that in another language. You didn't tell me what you were writing no matter how much I asked."

Kain shook his head with a fake sad expression.

Kairen held up the new notebook.

"What about this?"

"Hmm? what about it? You wrote something in that too, similar to that old notebook."

Kain scratched his head and looked between the two notebooks. He suddenly opened his eyes wide and looked at Kairen.

"Hey, you! You can read them?"

Kairen nodded his head.

"What the hell! You still remember that shitty language even though you had forgotten me?"

"Ey!"

Kain suddenly closed his mouth. He looked between the notebooks and Kairen. His eyes were sparkling all of a sudden.

"So... what are the contents of those notebooks?"

Curiosity was visible in his eyes. He raised his eyebrows while stretching his neck closed and staring at the notebooks.

Kairen threw the notebook on the bed and sighed.

"Nonsense."

"Huh?"

"It is all nonsense. Completely bullshit."

Kain walked closer and peeked at the notebook even though he couldn't understand the language.

"...What kind of nonsense?"

Kairen picked up the new notebook and opened its first page. He placed his hand on the line and showed it to Kain.

"Look. This one here. Bread - Egg - Milk - Butter - Tomato - Medium-sized potato - Onion - Ice cream - Candy."

He moved his finger alongside the lines as he read the words one by one.

"...."

Kairen turned the page and read its contents as well.

Kain's expression crumbled. He looked at the notebook, bewildered.

"Are both of the notebooks... like this?"

"More or less."

Kairen didn't lie. If you looked at the old notebook's contents, it looked even more stupid than a shopping list.

Kain seemed really disappointed. He pressed his lips together and looked down.

Kairen started to feel guilty while looking at his depressed expression. He hadn't done anything wrong! It was all that stupid bastard's fault for acting all mysterious, not him!

"D-did you have anything to tell me?"

Kairen asked a question to change the topic.

"Ah, that!"

Kain exclaimed as if he had just remembered something and raised his head. He took out something from his pocket and held it out in front of Kairen. It was a card.

"Here."

"What is it?"

Kairen took the card and looked at it.

[Guset invitation]

"An entrance card to SMF's training ground."

"A what?"

Kain chuckled and explained more.

"You know that members of SMF have a lot of privileges. This is also one. SMF has a huge and equipped training ground. Any member is allowed to invite one person to the training ground. Well, they have to go through some identification process and such, but I have completed that process before for you."

"...Is that so?"

"Yes. I thought you needed somewhere to train since you have exams in the future. It has validity for only three months, so use it well."

"Oh!"

Kairen looked at the card with his mouth open. He didn't know there were things like this. Special privileges were nice, really nice.

'But boy...'

"You should pay attention to your son instead of me, you know."

Kairen said what was in his mind out loud. Kain burst into laughter at those words.

"You don't need to worry, I pay enough attention to him."

"Is that so?"

"Yep."

Kain got up and walked towards the door.

"And I have to go prepare what he requested from me as the final result of an exhausting negotiation."

"....Good luck."
