Chapter 28: Moving forward

After checking his surroundings through the undershirt on his head and confirming that there were no living monsters, Zhou Chen took out the bottle of mineral water from his inventory. He pulled down his mask and began to drink it.

The temperature in this desert was very high, and the battle earlier had consumed a lot of energy. Zhou Chen’s body urgently needed a lot of water now.

After finishing the bottle of about 500 ml of mineral water, Zhou Chen closed the lid and placed it in his inventory.

This bottle was produced by the system. He felt that it might have other uses.

After wiping the dust from his mouth, he pulled up his mask and continued on his way with the iron rod.

While moving forward, he kept a high level of vigilance because although he had eliminated the monsters that attacked him, there might be some more not far ahead.

There were three Survivors ahead of him. He did not think that there would not be any monsters attacking them.

About five minutes later, he saw the corpses of a few desert blade worms not far from him. Their heads seemed to have been shattered by a blunt weapon. Even further away was a desert blade worm biting something on the sand. Its two sharp fangs kept opening and closing, splashing red traces on the surrounding sand.

“Did someone die?”

Zhou Chen guessed. A round shield with deep scratches on the surface immediately appeared in his left hand, and he clenched the iron rod in his right hand and walked towards the desert blade worm that was eating.

The large centipede-like desert blade worm quickly sensed that someone was approaching. It did not show any weakness and immediately dropped the food that it was eating, before drilling into the sand and attacking the person.

Zhou Chen was already familiar with this monster’s attacking style. He held the iron rod and round shield and continued to walk forward steadily, not at all nervous about the monster’s hiding.

Three seconds later, he relied on his relatively strong perception to discover the desert blade worm that had approached him from the sand. Then, with his high agility, he dodged its attack at the right time. Then, he hit the other party’s head with his iron rod with great strength, shattering it on the spot.

After killing this monster, the system did not give him any notifications. This meant that he did not obtain a passive skill or any drops.

Zhou Chen walked past the monster’s corpse and arrived at the spot where it was originally eating. He found that there was indeed a human corpse there. The corpse had already been cut into pieces by the long teeth of the blade worms, and its flesh was lacerated.

Zhou Chen could only infer from the clothes left on the corpse that this should be the first girl who had asked him for coke.

Not far from this corpse, there was a hammer that was half sunk into the sand. There were two deep marks on the hammer handle, possibly left by the desert blade worms.

Zhou Chen bent down and picked up the hammer. He tried to place it in his inventory and easily succeeded.

“Sorry, I didn’t let you drink your last sip of coke, but I still have to take your item.”

Zhou Chen felt some regret in his heart. Even if the young girl’s character was slightly unreasonable, she shouldn’t have died so quickly and so miserably.

However, the system was cold. It would not give you any chance to regret. If there was a mistake in Survival missions, the price would be death.

He searched the surroundings briefly and confirmed that there were no more system items. Then, he continued on the bone path.

After walking for about half an hour, he saw a lighter sandy area ahead.

He carefully probed the path with his iron rod and found that the sand there was very soft. It might be a quicksand.

Seeing this, he chose to take a detour.

“Speaking of which, the passive skill I just obtained seems to be called Breath Holding. I might be able to hold on for a while even if I fall into the sand.”

Zhou Chen had yet to read the detailed explanation of his gains from killing the monster earlier. He opened the interface and read the relevant description:

[Breath Holding I]

Type: Low bronze passive skill

Your body has been enhanced. You can maintain normal life functions for about three hours in an environment that lacks oxygen.]

“As expected, this thing has to do with holding my breath. If I can see things and move quickly in the sand, I can even act as a desert blade worm.”

Zhou Chen closed the interface.

He continued walking along the edge of the quicksand area for twenty minutes before realizing that two figures were walking over from behind.

He turned around and realized that it was the two white foreigners.

At this moment, the two foreigners looked injured. One of them had a cut on his chest, revealing a large area of red. The other’s left arm was stained with blood and was drooping weakly.

Zhou Chen was about to speed up when he saw this. He did not want to interact with these two.

“Hey! Friend! Wait!”

However, just as he quickened his pace, he heard a rather stiff Dragon Country language.

“This foreigner knows Dragon Country language?”

Zhou Chen was surprised. He stopped and turned to walk a few meters in their direction, waiting for them to continue talking.

“Friend! Please lend us some water!”

The foreign young man wearing a suit with a bloody cut on his chest walked in front and said to Zhou Chen anxiously.

“Sorry, I don’t have any water on me.”

Zhou Chen looked at him and the silent youth with the drooping left arm beside him and shook his head.

“Potion is fine too!”

The suited young man said something in foreign language to the person beside him. Then, he raised his hand and pointed at his chest and his partner’s left arm, indicating that they urgently needed treatment.

“We will pay you enough!”

He then emphasized in a rather stiff Dragon Country language.

“Although I want to help you, I’m very sorry. I don’t have any potion on me.”

Zhou Chen immediately replied with a smile.

In fact, he had a bottle of healing potion in his inventory, but he could not give it to them for a verbal price.

“Oh! That’s too bad! Let’s go together then!”

The suited young man did not seem to be angry at Zhou Chen’s rejection. Instead, he smiled and invited Zhou Chen to move together with them.

“No problem, I’ll lead the way.”

Zhou Chen smiled and nodded at them before continuing.

The suited youth behind him said a few words in foreign language to the other youth before following him.

Although Zhou Chen said that he was going to travel with these two, he actually could not accommodate these two injured people.. In fact, he was following his own pace and did not care if they could follow.
