[ Arthur had a bride?! ] Lance exclaimed.
‘Do you know who Mordred’s mother is?’ Zack questioned back.
[ Of course I know who his mother is. Her name is… ] Lance paused. The Phoenix realized that he never really knew who Mordred’s mother was.
‘Long ago, it was prophesied that my father, Arthur Pendragon, will give birth to a child that will shake the heavens and his wife would be one of the most beautiful goddesses. Many thought that the bride would be a goddess of beauty or love.
However, another prophecy revealed that my father could never be played by just beauty. Since he was a Pendragon, many believed that a goddess from light origin would be his bride.
When he got Excalibur, the strongest holy sword to exist, many thought that his bride was chosen. Hemera, the personification of day, received a prophecy telling her that she would be the mother of Arthur’s child.
The other gods knew that Arthur’s child would shake the heavens so they asked Hemera to take care of the child and teach him or her the right way. My father, however, didn’t love Hemera.
Hemera did love my father due to his deeds which lead to her forcing herself on my father. That was how Mordred was born.’ Zack explained.
[ If thats true, why are both of you only related due to your father’s blood. I know gods and goddesses don’t have DNA but still. ]
‘Its because Hemera never became my father’s bride. Soon after Mordred was born, he was called upon by the elves. Pendragons are bound by blood to go and help in any matter related to the world tree.
Once he reached there, it turned out that something was wrong at the roots of the world tree and it wasn’t supplying the right amount of energy to the elven realm.
My father went to explore the depths of the world tree and that’s where he found a dragon chewing on the roots of the world tree.’
[ Wait, I have heard about that. A dragon chews on the roots of the world tree while an eagle throws tornadoes from the top. ] Lance interrupted.
‘Yes. The eagle and dragon do it on a routinely basis. If the eagle was present here, it would be blowing us right off the peak of the world.’
[ I see… Zack, can I ask you something before you continue? ]
‘Sure.’
[ You said that the strange woman who gave you the jewel of Yggdrasil told you that three gods would be arriving in Hikari to kill you all. ]
‘Yes, that’s what she said.’
[ We killed Uriel with the help of Hephaestus. That still leaves two more gods who could be rampaging in Hikari right now. ]
‘We can’t do anything about that. We can only hope that our friends and Sun Wukong are strong enough to fight to fight the gods. Hopefully, we will receive the help of the remaining gods on the light side.’
[ I see… Please continue. ]
‘All right. Father told me that once he had seen the dragon, he was about to kill it. However, pitch black darkness spread over the entire area and his body was rendered useless.
Once he had regained his senses, a terrific beauty was standing in front of him. That beauty was Nyx, the personification of night. Father skipped a lot of details about their interactions but I was born there.
My mother is Nyx, the Night and my father is Arthur Pendragon, the legendary hero.’
[ I never knew that… ] Lance was stunned.
He had been with Zack for a good half of his life but had never bothered him about his family. But then, Zack hadn’t asked him anything about his family or clans either.
Not like Lance knew anything about them in the first place. It was the gesture that counted.
‘Anyways, my father married Nyx which shook the heavens. Hemera was so angry that she forgot about her initial job of guiding her child towards the right path. She instead exhausted all of her energy on placing a curse on me.’
[ How can a goddess of her caliber exhaust all of her energy? ]
‘Goddesses like her have a limited amount of time that they can spend on other realms. Their powers are too powerful for the world to handle. Anyways, she placed a dangerous curse on me and returned to her domain.
My mother, Nyx, was disliked by almost everyone in heaven due to the fact that night made all of the gods slightly weaker. There was also a rumor that declared her as the creator of Apep.
Nyx, however, wasn’t bothered by any of that. For her, giving birth to a child and getting to fall in love was enough. Sadly, all of her hatred towards the gods and their hatred towards her gave birth to a curse.
With my luck, I ended up with another curse. That was why I am often referred to as the cursed child. I’m under the curse of day and night.’
[ What do these curses do? ] lance questioned. The Phoenix knew that Zack was cursed but he had never asked about it in too detail.
‘I can go outside a shaded place during the day. During the night, I can’t go out of a lighted spot.’ Zack replied with a sad smile.
[ … ]
‘When I met you, I was surprised to find someone in a similar situation to me. Before meeting you, I could only go out during dusk and dawn when night and day met. In a way, I owe a lot to you as well Lance.
My curse decreased a lot when our souls merge. After that, we even came here two times to get my curse removed. Hemera couldn’t remove it but instead decreased the limit to five minutes a day.
We also went to meet my mother. We spent some lovely time together. You don’t remember any of those things because both of the goddesses made you forget about those things. I wasn’t allowed to tell you about those either.
Heck, I took an oath for it.’
[ but… ]
‘The oath vanished the moment I died for the first time,’ Zack smiled before looking straight forward.
He had arrived in front of two closed doors with numerous symbols present on them.
‘Now, we are going to meet my step-mother, Hemera, for the third time.’

AN: I know too much talking happened but it was necessary to explain these things. Anyways, the reason Zack calls Hemera his step mother is because she is technically still his half-brother’s mother. More details in the next chapter
